Lebanon funding during hurricane season is questioned by Doocy, causing Karine Jean-Pierre to exit the briefing.
Doocy stated that you cannot label a question you dislike as misinformation.
During a heated exchange with Planet Chronicle Channel's Peter Doocy, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre defended the decision to send aid to Lebanon during the hurricane season, despite its devastating effects on North Carolina.
Harris promised on Saturday to provide $157 million in "extraordinary assistance" to Lebanon, while Israel continued to attack Hezbollah targets and infrastructure in the country. Harris emphasized that Lebanon was facing a severe humanitarian crisis. Doocy questioned Jean-Pierre about the Biden administration's decision to seek congressional approval before sending disaster loan funds to North Carolina but not to Lebanon.
The administration has money to send to Lebanon without Congress's approval, but Congress must approve funding to send to people in North Carolina. Is that correct, Doocy?
"Jean-Pierre stated that the president and vice president have had a strong whole-of-government response to the disaster, with more than $200 million allocated for aid. He also emphasized the danger of disinformation and misinformation."
Doocy questioned if the president's letter to Congress seeking assistance contained false information.
No, the way you're asking me the question is incorrect. We are allocating funds to impacted areas and there is money available to help those who truly need it. Survivors require this funding, and it is available.
Doocy stated that it is incorrect to label a question one dislikes as misinformation.
"Congress needs to come back and do their job and provide extra assistance, extra funding for the disaster relief fund. That's what Congress needs to do," she responded. "You may not want that, but that's okay. That's what this president wants, and that's what the vice president wants."
Jean-Pierre then stormed out of the briefing room.
After Homeland Security's Alejandro Mayorkas stated on Wednesday that FEMA lacks the funds to complete the season, the administration has been charged with mismanaging funds.
Social media critics swiftly criticized Harris for promoting aid to Lebanon, stating that numerous North Carolina residents are still grappling with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
"Gov. Abbott criticized Kamala's handling of the Lebanon aid and North Carolina crisis, saying it was a repeat of her Katrina disaster."
Rep. Nick Langworthy, R-N.Y., stated that Kamala's announcement of "America First!" was insensitive and inappropriate given the current crisis in America after the hurricane, with Americans suffering and in danger.
The Biden administration has been criticized for its handling of Helene, with former President Trump labeling the federal response to the disaster as the "most incompetently managed 'storm,' at the federal level, ever seen before."
