Kamala Harris uncertain about future political plans after election loss: report
Last week, Harris went on vacation to Hawaii after losing the election to Trump.
Politico reported that former aides of Vice President Kamala Harris are discussing her next political moves following her election loss.
Politico reported that former Harris aide Brian Brokaw stated that she is not someone who makes quick decisions, often takes a long time to make decisions, and therefore, it is likely that she has no idea what her next move is.
After losing to President-elect Donald Trump, Harris has kept a low profile. She traveled to Kalaoa, Hawaii, for a vacation from her campaign schedule and duties as vice president.
Gavin Newsom, the current governor of California, cannot run for another term in 2026 and has expressed interest in running for president.
Politico reported that Brokaw said, "Yes, she could run for governor. I don't think she wants to, but she could definitely win. I don't know if she'd like the job. Yes, she could run for president again."
"Would she have a lot of skepticism from the start because she ran in a full-length Democratic primary in 2019 and didn't make it to the Iowa caucus, and then she was the nominee this year?"
Some former aides claim that Harris lacks sufficient time and political capital to determine if she will seek office.
"One former Harris campaign aide told Politico that she doesn't have to decide if she wants to run for something again in the next six months. Instead, the natural thing to do would be to set up an entity that would give her the opportunity to travel, give speeches, and preserve her political relationships."
Someone close to Harris highlighted the urgency of making a decision.
A close source to Harris stated that there would be a longing to hear her voice and that the void wouldn't last long.
The sudden layoffs of DNC staffers following the vice president's trip to Hawaii after her loss have raised questions, especially given reports that the Harris campaign spent $1.5 billion in 15 weeks on a losing effort.
During a Thursday briefing, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre defended Vice President Kamala Harris' vacation, stating that there was nothing "incorrect" about her taking time off.
Jean-Pierre stated that he believes the vice president deserves some time off to spend with her family and have some downtime after working hard for the past four years.
