Kamala Harris's avoidance of journalists is more problematic than Trump's labeling them as "enemies of the people," according to Bill Maher.
The HBO host implies that Harris is conveying to the press that they are insignificant.
Bill Maher on "Real Time" argued that Kamala Harris' treatment of the press is more disrespectful than Trump's long-standing attacks on news outlets.
On Friday, Kaitlan Collins of CNN was asked by Maher about her thoughts on Kamala not speaking to the press.
"In a way, I find it more insulting than what Trump does," Maher stated. "Trump's statement that you're 'the enemy of the people' is bad, but what she's implying is even worse. She's saying, 'I don't need you, I'm not talking to you, you don't matter, and you're not relevant to me anymore.' To me, that's even more insulting than 'I hate you.' It's like 'I don't think about you.'"
"Collins stated that he was unsure if it was worse than Trump's daily denigration of the press, which he did while in the White House. As a correspondent, Collins covered Trump every day and often found himself in personal arguments with him or being lied to about the questions he asked. He added that he didn't know if he would consider the two actions comparable."
Collins stated that she believes the individual should speak with the press and be willing to answer questions in order to gain access to nuclear codes. Additionally, she expressed her desire to have the person on their show.
"I'd love to too," Maher replied. "But I won't be holding my breath."
Despite being the Democratic nominee for over a month, Harris has not conducted any interviews or held news conferences, while Trump has consistently made himself available to the press, granting both interviews and news conferences.
Harris had suggested scheduling an interview before the end of August, but on Thursday, when asked by Planet Chronicle' Peter Doocy, she jokingly replied that she was working towards it.
Despite her rapid ascent to the top of the Democratic ticket, Harris has faced minimal scrutiny. Some of the top concerns surrounding her include her shift from progressive positions during her initial campaign in 2019, her proposed policy plans as president, and the concealment of President Biden's mental decline.
