Kamala Harris is granting reporters exclusive access to her plane, but the conversations are off-the-record: Report
A source close to the Harris campaign stated that there was no motivation for her to answer more questions.
Kamala Harris is giving off-the-record comments to her traveling press as she faces increasing pressure to respond to media queries.
Politico's "West Wing Playbook" on Wednesday reported that the vice president frequently communicates with traveling reporters, but always on her own terms.
Politico's Eli Stokols, Lauren Egan and Ben Johansen wrote that she often talks with the press pool seated at the back of her plane, but only off the record.
They added that when she chooses to comment on news, Harris makes statements but doesn't take questions on the tarmac.
An anonymous source close to the Harris campaign questioned the motivation behind her decision to answer more questions.
The source stated that she was successfully conveying her intended message.
Semafor politics reporter David Weigel proposed that the reason the media hasn't criticized access issues could be attributed to the remarks made by her to traveling press.
"Harris has been conversing with her traveling press off the record, which is something Biden rarely did. The reason you haven't heard much media criticism about access is because the outlets paying for the plane are receiving face time," he wrote on X.
Daily Caller Deputy Managing Editor Dylan Housman was not happy with Harris' new strategy, suggesting that the vice president was using "useless" off-the-record facetime to "buy off" the press and avoid scrutiny.
National Review Senior Writer Dan McLaughlin offered a similar perspective.
"The press is not doing its job in a democracy by not sharing what a politician says with the voters, even though they get to hear her talk," he tweeted.
Since becoming the presumptive nominee last month, Harris has not held a formal press conference for 18 days. On July 21, President Biden endorsed her and Democrats quickly united behind her.
Since then, Harris has given informal remarks to reporters and spoken at various events, but has not done a formal press conference or a wide-ranging interview.
Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment from the Harris campaign was not immediately responded to.
