Kamala Harris expresses disappointment that the Washington Post and LA Times did not endorse her, and criticizes the "billionaires' club" in a recent interview.
Harris responds to non-endorsements from liberal newspapers on 'The Breakfast Club'
Major liberal newspapers, including the Washington Post and Los Angeles Times, have not received endorsements from Vice President Kamala Harris this election cycle, which she expressed disappointment over on Tuesday.
On "The Breakfast Club," Charlamagne tha God questioned Harris about her thoughts on The Post and the LA Times not endorsing major news publications after consistently supporting Democratic candidates for the White House. The Post, owned by Jeff Bezos, and the LA Times, owned by Patrick Soon-Shiong, both quashed their endorsements late in the election cycle.
Harris criticized her opponent for prioritizing the interests of billionaires over the general public, stating that he would offer a massive tax cut to the wealthiest Americans if he returned to office.
"Harris stated that instead of focusing on how he can help take care of your grandparents, he is preoccupied with his own grievances and how he has been treated personally, rather than considering his responsibility to uplift you."
An op-ed defending The Post's decision not to endorse a presidential candidate in the 2024 race was written by Bezos, which sparked controversy among the newspaper's staff and liberal readers after it was announced last week.
The Amazon founder, who acquired The Post in 2013, maintained that newspaper endorsements have no impact on election outcomes but rather create a perception of bias. He reaffirmed The Post's decision to cease presidential endorsements, stating it was a matter of principle and the correct course of action.
According to the LA Times, Soon-Shiong stated that he had no regrets about his paper not endorsing a candidate, as he believed it would only increase readers' mistrust.
Some Democrats and media pundits have criticized the decisions, resulting in the cancellation of hundreds of thousands of subscriptions and resignations among staff members.
On Monday, Mika Brzezinski of MSNBC claimed that former President Trump pressured The Post editorial board to withhold an endorsement of Kamala Harris in the election, citing a report that the board had initially planned to support her before the endorsement was abruptly canceled at the last minute.
Brzezinski stated that he got the Washington Post and Jeff Bezos, who is known as a powerful and brilliant billionaire, to back down. He is the head of Amazon and runs the Washington Post, owns it. Brzezinski forced them not to endorse, which is quite scary.
The Post's editorial board supported Clinton over Trump in 2016 and Biden in 2020. The paper's editorials towards Trump have consistently been highly critical, with one editorial labeling him as the worst president in modern history.
