Kamala Harris confronts Anderson Cooper on CNN following Biden's contentious debate.
At one point, Harris stated, "I won't spend the entire night discussing the previous 90 minutes with you."
On Thursday night, Vice President Kamala Harris confronted CNN's Anderson Cooper, expressing her frustration with the Democratic Party's standard-bearer after President Biden's poor debate performance.
Harris was informed by Cooper that some members of his own party believed Biden should consider abandoning his presidential aspirations after a subpar, hoarse speech that caused concern among liberal journalists and Democratic supporters.
"Harris stated that the president's speech tonight clearly distinguished him from Donald Trump on all the issues that matter to Americans, despite a slow start, it ended on a strong note."
Cooper interrupted to say it was highly disappointing to his supporters as Harris defended Biden as strong on "policy and performance."
Cooper stated that Democratic lawmakers were concerned about Biden's performance during the debate. One lawmaker described it as a disaster, while another referred to it as a trainwreck. The Democrats were particularly worried that Biden did not confront Trump's lies.
Harris stated that while people may argue about style points, the election and the identity of the United States' president ultimately boil down to substance. She criticized Trump as a liar and pointed out his inconsistencies on issues such as January 6, accepting the election results, and abortion.
While Harris criticized Trump, Cooper interjected, stating, "Although what she said may be accurate, the President of the United States was unable to convince Trump of his argument during the debate tonight."
Four years ago, you debated against Vice President Biden, and he was a different person on stage. Is that not true, Cooper?
"Harris acknowledged the three-and-a-half years of historic performance in work, which was discussed in a one-and-a-half hour debate tonight."
Harris was spoken over by Cooper, who inquired about the identity of the man on the debate stage.
She snapped, "I won't spend all night discussing the last 90 minutes with you when I've been watching the last three-and-a-half years of performance."
The campaign desired this type of debate and rules, as Cooper persisted in stating.
Did you watch the president's performance tonight and are you not concerned at all?
"Harris acknowledged that the start was slow, and he didn't dispute it. He then discussed the upcoming election in November, which he considered one of the most significant in our history. He emphasized the importance of considering the consequences of the election and how it could impact the future of democracy in America."
In the election, there were "extraordinary stakes," as she stated in interviews, and she added that Biden had the support of his vice president, Mike Pence, who is not backing former President Trump in 2024.
Cooper observed that neither candidate presented the race as clearly as she did. Harris sharply criticized Cooper during one of her most heated media interviews.
According to a CNN flash poll, 67% of debate viewers believed Trump emerged victorious, compared to 33% who thought Biden won.
