Kamala Harris chuckles at her own "word salad" remark: "I did that"
In a month or so, you will be unemployed in the same context where I currently exist, according to one commentator's joke.
During her post-election speech on Tuesday, even Vice President Kamala Harris couldn't help but chuckle at her own choice of words.
During a visit to Prince George's Community College in Maryland, Harris encouraged young people to "stay in the fight" amidst the disappointment of her defeat in November.
"The vice president reminded the audience that the struggle they were facing was not new, as it had been ongoing for nearly 250 years since Lexington and Concord. He emphasized that this fight was driven by those who loved their country, cherished its ideals, and refused to remain passive while their ideals were being threatened. He concluded by stating that this fight now continued with them, and that they were its heirs."
"I urge you to recall the surroundings in which you reside," Harris said to her audience, smiling knowingly. She paused and nodded, "Yes, I did that. Uh huh," before bursting into laughter.
It appeared as though she was alluding to a previous phrase her campaign had utilized, "You believe you simply fell from a coconut tree? You exist within the framework of everything that preceded you."
Social media users were quick to mock the vice president.
National Review senior writer Noah Rothman observed that although she is now aware of the joke, it does not diminish its humor.
