Justine Bateman, an author and filmmaker, expressed optimism for the country after President-elect Donald Trump's victory, stating that it felt like a burden had been lifted.

"Bateman told Planet Chronicle Digital that he feels great and the suffocating cloud that was over them has been broken. He explained that regular people who had questions about decisions were threatened into silence, but now he feels like that suppression has been broken."

Recently, Bateman, who played Mallory Keaton on "Family Ties," went viral for stating that the past four years were an "un-American period" for free expression, with only "permitted positions" being accepted by those in power.

Bateman stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that while he believes everyone should have the freedom to live their life as they choose, it is important not to infringe on another person's right to do the same.

In the last four years or more, it was un-American that individuals were unable to ask questions or engage in debates about certain topics, such as trans women playing in sports, using women's locker rooms or bathrooms, or being in prisons. Additionally, the lack of allowing the public to freely discuss the benefits and dangers of these decisions was also un-American. The idea that individuals were silenced and threatened with career or social destruction if they did not conform to certain beliefs was also un-American.

Bateman is not affiliated with any political party, but she is intrigued by the team surrounding Trump, particularly Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s approach to health and environmental issues in the upcoming administration, and Elon Musk's efforts to streamline government operations.

She said their "strong position" on free speech won her over.

"I am just one person and this is my experience. If someone has a different experience, it is also valid. There is room for all experiences, opinions, and thoughts. My point is that it is the American way to allow everyone to express themselves freely. However, you cannot infringe upon someone else's ability to do the same."

The economy was also a motivating issue for Bateman at the ballot box.

"The economy is spiraling out of control," she exclaimed. "I can't believe we're printing this much money without any consequences. It's like we're repeating the mistakes of Venezuela. I'm completely puzzled by the actions of these adults."

Besides filmmaking, Bateman heads The CREDO23 Council, a council of professionals striving to reduce Hollywood's increasing dependence on artificial intelligence.

The CREDO23 Council will be hosting its inaugural film festival in the spring, showcasing films that do not rely on generative AI technology.
