Journalism suffered a setback due to CNN's interview with Harris, according to a political analyst.

Vice President Kamala Harris' first interview since being named the Democratic nominee was criticized by journalist Mark Halperin as a "disaster for journalism."

Halperin described the highly anticipated interview as a disappointment, stating that Harris's performance was only decent due to CNN's Dana Bash being too lenient on her.

Halperin criticized Kamala Harris's performance during a livestream on his media platform 2WAY on Friday, stating that she did well but only because the questions were too easy. He also criticized the follow-ups, which he deemed almost non-existent or soft. Halperin felt that certain topics should not have been covered and that there was too much fluff in the interview.

He remarked that the bumps and teasers were merely advertisements for the campaign.

On Thursday, the vice president met with CNN's Bash after going 40 days without a formal interview since becoming the Democratic ticket's top candidate. Harris defended her role in the Biden administration and stated that her "values have not changed" when asked about her shift from her left-wing policies during her failed 2020 presidential campaign.

Halperin stated that Harris presented well, but emphasized that the interview was a missed chance to address voter concerns.

She was good enough, with minimal word salad and a good tone. He remarked that she was confident during the interview with someone she was friendly with.

The interview was a disaster for journalism, and it was unfortunate that it was her first and perhaps only real interview before the debate and the foreseeable future. As a result, she now has permission to do interviews with Jen Psaki and the West Wing cast, among others.

The journalist lamented that almost nothing came out of the interview, making it unfortunate for the American people to understand what kind of president she would be.

CNN did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.

On Friday, Halperin was not the only person who criticized the network for being too lenient on Harris.

On Friday, Rep. Dan Meuser, R-Penn., stated that Harris had managed to avoid a disaster in her first interview, but Bash had not adequately questioned her.

The New York Times and Poynter commended Bash for its "good night."

According to Tom Jones' op-ed for Poynter, the night was successful for everyone involved, including Bash, Harris, and Walz. Despite some criticism, Bash was able to handle the big assignment with professionalism and admiration. Harris was also praised for being smooth and strong. Overall, the night was respectable, with Bash setting the tone for a successful outcome.

"Despite the challenges, the seasoned journalist received praise for her excellent performance. The New York Times recognized her outstanding interview with Ms. Harris, where she addressed the major concerns surrounding her young campaign, such as her specific plans and the reasons behind not implementing some of her proposals while serving as vice president."
