Johnson criticizes CBS moderators for 'biased' fact-checking of JD Vance: 'Outnumbered'
Mike Johnson accuses Norah O'Donnell and Margaret Brennan of showing disdain towards the Republican Party on 'Fox & Friends'.
The House Speaker accused the CBS News Vice Presidential Debate moderators of having anti-conservative bias and displayed it through their "shameless" fact-checking of Sen. JD Vance.
"During "Fox & Friends" on Wednesday, Johnson stated, "It's just shameless how they display their bias and disdain for any Republican candidate. It was three against one, yet JD still won.""
During the debate, moderator Margaret Brennan interrupted Vance when he claimed that illegal immigrants are overwhelming resources in Springfield, Ohio, despite CBS's announcement that live fact-checking would not be allowed.
To confirm, Springfield, Ohio has a significant population of Haitian migrants with legal status and temporary protected status, as stated by Brennan.
Vance was interrupted by Reynolds and O'Donnell while trying to challenge the fact-check, as they urged the show to proceed to the next question.
"Vance reminded them that the rules were not to fact-check, but since they were fact-checking him, it was important to state the truth."
The moderators interrupted Vance while he was explaining the legal process of obtaining status under a Harris-backed immigration policy, thanking him for his description before cutting off his microphone as Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz tried to argue with him.
"Thank you so much for explaining the legal process, Senator," Brennan said before urging O'Donnell again to move on to the next question.
She remarked that the audience couldn't hear Vance because his mics were turned off.
Johnson praised Vance for his performance against the Minnesota governor, commending him for highlighting the Biden-Harris administration's "open" border policies.
"Johnson stated that the immigration policy is essentially non-existent, as the border has been opened and everyone is being allowed in. This has led to a catastrophe in our country, with fentanyl poisonings being the leading cause of death for Americans aged 18 to 49. Additionally, the trafficking of people and the loss of children who came across the border have been significant consequences of this policy."
He continued, "If a Republican administration had done that, it would be all over the news every day, but they try to hide it."
"Last night, JD excelled because he provided answers and solutions. He discussed policies and demonstrated his depth, making him appear reasonable and likable. I believe he was at his finest, delivering an exceptional performance."
CBS News has decided not to have its moderators fact-check or correct live during broadcasts to avoid the backlash that ABC News received for its partisan approach to the first presidential debate between former President Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.
The network provided viewers with a QR code that allowed their reporters to fact-check the candidates' remarks in real time on their website.
