JK Rowling responds to criticism of her political views: "You can keep telling yourself this"
JK Rowling's views on transgender women have sparked significant criticism.
On Sunday, J.K. Rowling rejected an online critic's accusation that she is "far right," amidst criticism for her views on gender.
Rowling was accused of being "far right" despite claiming otherwise and obtaining her information from neonazi publications and far right hate groups, as evidenced by a screenshot of an excerpt she shared.
The diatribe stated that [S]he believes a far right conspiracy theory that is essentially the same as 'The Protocols of the Elders of Zion' but for trans people.
In the late 19th century, "The Protocols" was a notorious antisemitic text that was widely used in Europe to justify discrimination against Jews, even though it was a work of pure fiction.
Rowling refuted her online critics by stating, "[B]ut you’re simply wrong."
Rowling wrote: "I am a left-leaning liberal with a strong anti-authoritarian stance, yet you couldn't infer that from my work, indicating a lack of comprehension."
Rowling stated that she identifies as an "idealist" with a strong belief in people, but harbors a deep-seated mistrust of rigid ideologies.
Rowling stated that her values remain unchanged, but the political landscape has undergone a significant shift. The center-left party she once considered her natural home, which focused on addressing economic disparity, promoting social liberalism, and advocating for equal rights, is now controlled by an illiberal, identity-based strain of politics that she views as elitist, harmful, and disconnected from the daily concerns of ordinary people, particularly women.
Women's rights were under attack, she claimed, with both the left and right being responsible.
Rowling stated that now is the time for women from all political backgrounds to unite.
In recent years, Rowling has faced criticism for her views on transgender women, with many on social media branding her a "TERF."
The author of the famous book has been subjected to death and rape threats, faced criticism from "Harry Potter" film stars, and was reported for a hate crime by a transgender broadcaster.
