Jeffrey Toobin is reinstated by CNN after leaving the network due to scandal.

Jeffrey Toobin, the former legal analyst of CNN who faced controversy and left the network in 2022, has been welcomed back to the network under the new corporate regime.

Since the beginning of the year, Toobin has been on CNN over a dozen times to discuss legal issues such as Trump's indictments, Hur's report on Biden, and the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Colorado's Trump ballot ban.

He has made five appearances on "Anderson Cooper 360" since early February, according to Grabien transcripts. He has also appeared on CNN programs such as "Laura Coates Live," "The Source with Kaitlan Collins," "CNN Newsnight," and "CNN This Morning." Instead of being referred to as a CNN chief legal analyst, he is often introduced as a "former federal prosecutor."

According to Planet Chronicle Digital, he is currently a "guest" and not officially hired back.

In October 2020, Toobin, who has been with CNN since 2002, was frequently called upon as a pundit by the network, until he was caught masturbating during a Zoom meeting with his New Yorker colleagues.

Despite being fired from a prestigious magazine for an act, CNN kept Toobin on board and granted him a lengthy leave of absence when the network was under the control of former president Jeff Zucker.

In June 2021, after being away for several months, Toobin spoke with Alisyn Camerota of CNN about the scandal and his time away from the public eye in an uncomfortable interview.

"What the hell were you thinking?" Camerota asked Toobin.

Toobin admitted that he wasn't thinking clearly and it was inexplicable to him. He explained that one reason for this was that he didn't believe he was on the call. Additionally, he acknowledged that he didn't consider that others could see him.

"I believed I had ended the Zoom call, but that's not an excuse. This was incredibly foolish and unjustifiable. However, it's part of the narrative," he said. "Additionally, I have spent the past seven months, which have been wretched months in my life, trying to improve myself."

Although CNN was widely mocked for the unusual interview, Toobin continued to appear regularly on the network as its chief legal analyst for the next 14 months.

In August 2022, Toobin announced he "decided" to leave CNN. Nevertheless, many believed he had little control over the situation due to Zucker's replacement, Chris Licht, trying to "tamp down spectacle" and restore the network's credibility. Licht was eventually fired and replaced by current CNN boss Mark Thompson, who became the network's third non-interim leader in less than two years.

In 2023, CNN invited Toobin on-air at least three times to promote a book, but it was Camerota who was largely absent from CNN viewers as she was pulled from the network's live broadcasts last year and reassigned to do pre-recorded segments and specials, recently appearing on CNN's weekend program "The Whole Story with Anderson Cooper."

On the "Ruthless" podcast on Tuesday, Mary Katharine Ham, a former CNN contributor who has claimed she was punished for tweeting about Toobin's scandal, made a joke about Toobin's CNN resurrection.

"I wish I had bet on Toobin making it back on air before me," she said.
