JD Vance responds to Taylor Swift's criticism and Harris endorsement: "Feels disconnected"
Vance's controversial remark was criticized by Swift in her endorsement.
After Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris for president, JD Vance dismissed her as "disconnected from the problems of most Americans."
"Vance stated on "The Story" that while many Americans may appreciate Taylor Swift's music, they are unlikely to be swayed by a billionaire celebrity who, in his opinion, is detached from the concerns and struggles of the average American."
"When grocery prices increase by 20%, it negatively impacts most Americans, but not Taylor Swift. Similarly, when housing prices become unaffordable, it does not affect billionaires like Taylor Swift, but it does impact middle-class Americans across the country."
After the first presidential debate on Tuesday night, Swift endorsed Harris minutes after Trump.
In her announcement, Taylor Swift took a jab at Vance by signing off as "Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady." The phrase has gone viral in recent weeks and references a comment made by Vance in 2021, where he said the U.S. was being run by "childless cat ladies" who were "miserable at their own lives." Despite his defense of the remark as a "joke," it has been widely criticized.
Swift, who shared a photo of herself with her cat on Instagram, stated that she will vote for Harris because "she champions the rights and causes I believe require a fierce advocate."
Vance stated that he thinks the Trump campaign has a more persuasive and relatable message for women voters, emphasizing the Republican promise to enhance national security.
"Our pitch to women voters is straightforward. Donald Trump implemented policies that reduced the cost of groceries, housing, and most importantly, ensured public safety in our country."
He continued, "I want my kids to grow up in a country where the neighborhoods are safe enough and the streets are safe enough for them not to make mistakes and not have it take their lives. Twenty years ago, if you smoked a joint, you got yelled at by your parents. Today, smoking a joint can be laced with fentanyl and might take a teenager's life."
"Our argument is to elect Donald Trump, as we believe that most women do not want that for their families, neighborhoods, and the country as a whole. We aim to restore public safety, which has been lacking in recent years."
In a "Fox & Friends" interview on Wednesday, Trump stated that he anticipated Swift would endorse the Democratic nominee, despite her earlier support for Harris.
"It was only a matter of time before she couldn't endorse Biden. Trump stated that he is not a fan of Taylor Swift when he said, 'You look at Biden, you couldn't possibly endorse him.'"
"She's a very liberal person who consistently supports Democrats. He added that she may face consequences in the marketplace for her views."
