JD Vance challenges CNN's Tapper for perpetuating Russia collusion narrative: Constantly discussed it.
In a recent interview, Vance stated that a viewer of your network would have thought that Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin collaborated in 2016.
In a heated interview on CNN, JD Vance, the GOP vice presidential candidate, criticized Jake Tapper and the network for their "lack of integrity" in covering former President Trump's Russian collusion allegations, claiming they were spreading the narrative as if it were true.
Vance and Tapper engaged in a heated debate over accusations made by ex-Trump White House chief of staff John Kelly that Trump once claimed he wanted generals like Hitler had. Vance argued that Tapper's network tends to focus on reporting on anti-Trump claims, citing CNN's coverage of the alleged collusion between Trump and Russia to steal the 2016 election as an example.
Vance stated that it was preposterously false that a viewer of their network believed that Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin conspired in 2016.
The exchange started with Vance challenging CNN's credibility following their refusal to validate Kelly's assertions about Trump's "fascist" tendencies, which gained traction on social media and were backed by the Harris campaign and other Democrats.
Take a step back and consider a fundamental question about network integrity. Have you guys ceaselessly discussed the Russia hoax? Vance remarked.
CNN was under investigation by the FBI, so we covered the story.
The candidate retorted by pointing his finger, stating, "You presented the words of unidentified FBI agents as absolute truth on your network."
"He repeatedly denied the collusion allegations, claiming they were false."
""No, that's false. We covered an FBI investigation, and I don't understand why you want to discuss it," the journalist replied."
Vance remained firm, asserting, "Your reporting gave credence to anonymous sources' accusations. You were the one who did it. Your network was responsible, Jake."
Although Tapper denied Vance's accusations during their interview, he spent years reporting on the Russiagate narrative until Special Counsel John Durham's 2023 report on the investigation found that the FBI had violated their mission of strict adherence to the law while conducting it.
Four years after Special Counsel Robert Mueller concluded his investigation into Trump-Russia collusion, which yielded no evidence of criminal conspiracy or coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia to influence the 2016 election, that report was released.
During their interview, Vance requested that Tapper focus on Trump's policies instead of his alleged statements.
"Can we discuss the issues that are most important to Americans?" he inquired.
Tapper countered, "My focus is on the statements made by Donald Trump this week. If you have concerns about his economic discussions, that is a matter between you and your campaign partner. I am solely addressing the remarks he made recently."
Tapper was told by Vance, "You all seem to prioritize Trump's past over the future of the American people."
