In 2025, Trump and the GOP may adopt Ronald Reagan's "peace through strength" defense strategy.

"On "America’s Newsroom" on Friday, David Trulio, the president and CEO of the organization, stated that President Trump and the Republicans who were elected in the majority in the House and Senate have a mandate for peace through strength."

"Our survey data shows that Americans generally believe in peace through strength, regardless of whether they are Trump or Harris voters. This supports those who advocate for a strong military to be actively engaged globally."

Politicians from various sides are meeting at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, to evaluate and strategize on policies that will enhance America's military power.

The Ronald Reagan Institute released new survey data prior to the annual meeting, revealing that a majority of Americans consider foreign policy and national defense as "somewhat" or "extremely" important.

David Trulio on Reagan National Defense Forum
Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Institute CEO and President David Trulio joined "America's Newsroom" to preview the National Defense Forum this weekend.

"The U.S. military is highly valued and it's crucial for Americans to view it as such. Clearly, the primary function of government is to safeguard the country and its citizens," Trulio stated.

""Having a strong military is crucial for Americans to maintain their global presence and protect themselves from potential threats," he stated."

The stance taken by the opinion diverges from the "America first" policy frequently championed by President-elect Donald Trump, which some fear could isolate the U.S. during a geopolitically turbulent time as Russia's aggression continues to escalate in Europe, Iran remains a major threat in the Middle East, and China continues to pose a threat politically, militarily, and economically.

Majority of Americans want US to stay engaged in world events, Reagan National Defense Survey finds

A majority of male survey takers, 59%, expressed confidence that the U.S. could win a war against China, while only 45% of female participants shared the same belief. In contrast, 23% of female participants were unsure, compared to 18% of male participants who also expressed uncertainty.

"The world is chaotic, and China has been ascending militarily and economically. The Chinese navy is now bigger than the U.S. Navy. Therefore, it is important to consider whether we have a military that is capable of winning two wars simultaneously, as our survey data shows that Americans desire this capability."

The president and CEO stated that America's top adversaries are individuals who do not share our values and worldview. None of us as Americans, who cherish freedom and democracy, desire to reside in a world controlled by these individuals.

Dennis Quaid on Ronald Reagan's legacy: 'He left several'

Despite stating that "nobody should get a free lunch," Trulio acknowledged "bright spots" in the foreign policy sector with countries that can fulfill U.S. responsibility, engagement, and ethics.

"Everybody is responsible for our collective security," he stated. "For instance, Poland and Lithuania are fulfilling their obligations, and we must see more of that."
