Grieving families are being exploited by the GOP, claims Dem rep, while Angel mom defends her appearance at border hearing.
House Democrat faces backlash from Tammy Nobles, whose daughter was killed by an undocumented immigrant.
A Democratic lawmaker accused Republicans of exploiting victims' families by having them testify at a congressional hearing on the Biden-Harris border crisis, and an angel mom responded with a fiery rebuttal.
Tammy Nobles stated on "Fox & Friends" Wednesday that she has repeatedly emphasized that we are not being compelled to be there, and that it is our desire to be there.
Kayla Hamilton, the autistic daughter of Nobles, was brutally murdered by an MS-13 gang member in 2022. Nobles testified on Capitol Hill about the rise of illegal immigrant crime under the Biden-Harris administration.
The atmosphere became tense during the House Judiciary Committee hearing when Texas Democratic Rep. Veronica Escobar accused Republicans of politicizing the proceedings.
As a member of Congress, what is most frustrating to me is the exploitation of people's pain for political purposes, which is happening today at this committee hearing, according to Escobar.
At the hearing, April Aguirre, a crime victims' advocate and witness, deemed Escobar's comment an "offensive" presumption.
"Aguirre stated, "You made some broad insults about these people who lost loved ones and children, and we want to see a change. However, we may not fully comprehend the situation, but we can assure you that we are not being used in any way.""
Nobles stated that she attended the hearing to prevent a similar incident from occurring to another child, contrary to Escobar's assertions.
"For my daughter, I want to be there. It's not about any political motive, it's just for her," she stated.
In August, Walter Martinez, a 16-year-old MS-13 gang member who entered the U.S. illegally as an unaccompanied minor in 2022, pleaded guilty to Hamilton's murder and was sentenced to 70 years in jail.
If [Harris] gets elected, it will only worsen the current situation. It will be much worse than it currently is, as Hamiton warned, stating that Martinez, a known gang member with a criminal record in El Salvador, was released into the U.S.
Nobles stated that it was only through the discovery of her murder and the involvement of the local police that the information was uncovered.
At the hearing, Alexis Nungaray, the mother of a 12-year-old Texas girl who was allegedly strangled and thrown off a bridge by two illegal immigrants, criticized the Biden-Harris border policy.
"The suspects were released into the United States after being enrolled in the Alternatives to Detention program due to the Biden-Harris administration's open border policies and catch and release practices. Just three weeks later, they would take Jocelyn Nungaray's life."
The Biden-Harris administration has allowed 10 million individuals to enter the country in just three and a half years, with 99 of them being on the terrorist watch list, according to House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan, R-Ohio.
