Grandparents and grandchildren are strengthening their bond through a viral trend.
An unexpected sleepover sparked a heartwarming online trend.
Grandparents are becoming more connected to their adult grandchildren through a new trend on the internet.
Grandparents are being surprised by their grandchildren with sleepovers, as TikTok users film themselves bringing pillows, blankets, and pajamas to their homes under the hashtag #cousinsleepover.
The special night for grandparents planned by adult cousins during their holiday stay at home was a sweet gesture that involved old family traditions.
Emily Sindoni, a fitness director in New York City, shared a heartwarming video of her 10 cousins participating in the latest fitness trend on TikTok, which garnered over six million views.
"Sindoni shared with Planet Chronicle Digital that she and her cousins spent a significant amount of time growing up together. They keep their grandparents informed about everything and have a special relationship with them, as they were always present for holidays, dance recitals, and other events."
Sindoni discovered a similar video online and decided to organize a "Cousin Sleepover" for her family. During their holiday trip to New Jersey, the family decided it was the perfect opportunity to surprise "Pop Pop" Tony and "Mum Mum" Pat.
Sindoni said that he immediately jumped on the idea after sending the video to his cousins.
The grandparents were thrilled as each of the 10 cousins arrived with pizzas in hand, one by one, adding to the excitement of the gathering.
In the video, Pat Sindoni exclaims, "Now everybody’s here," as the last cousins arrive.
The family spent the night catching up on each other's lives and playing traditional family games. Sindoni hopes to make this an annual event, with a new surprise for her grandparents next year.
Sindoni told Planet Chronicle Digital that while it's impossible to recreate the same surprise twice, they would like to continue the tradition in some form, but with variations each year.
The hashtag #cousinsleepover gained immense popularity on TikTok, with videos of grandparents hosting sleepovers with their grandkids going viral.
"You don’t have to do the gifts and the games and all the extra stuff, it’s really [about] spending time with your loved ones, especially your grandparents while you have them." — Emily Sindoni
A TikTok user observed the children bringing food and activities for the group, which allowed the grandparents to relax and enjoy time with their families.
She wrote about how they brought food, gifts, and activities, without expecting to be fed or entertained. It was a thoughtful gesture.
The surprise sleepover at grandparents should be ranked as the top trend of 2023, according to another comment.
Sindoni hopes that the trend will inspire grandchildren to prioritize spending time with loved ones.
Sindoni stated that it's not necessary to engage in gifts, games, and additional activities; what truly matters is spending time with your loved ones, particularly your grandparents while they are still with us.
