On Sunday, Gov. Gavin Newsom faced criticism for not being accountable during the ongoing wildfire crisis in Los Angeles, California. It was alleged that the governor was avoiding responsibility after multiple media appearances.

He replied to NBC's question about who is responsible for the state's problems by saying, "As the governor of California, you're essentially the mayor of California. We're all in this together, and we're all better off when we're all better off."

During a 20-minute interview with NBC News on Sunday, California Governor Gavin Newsom discussed the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. However, his interview with Pod Save America, hosted by multiple former Obama staffers, was also mocked while the city battles the fires.

During the interview, critics accused Newsom of getting "lay up after lay up" and evading accountability. Another user claimed that the governor's response was "convoluted."

While some critics criticized Newsom's response to the "buck stooped with him" question as a "word salad," others commended the California governor for his criticisms of President-elect Trump during the "Meet the Press" interview.

Melendez, a former California state senator, accused Newsom of shirking responsibility.

Newsom stated that he had full support from President Biden, including 100% reimbursement and all the resources needed, with constant communication. He wished to extend this support to the president-elect. Newsom expressed confusion about the Delta smelt in reservoirs, stating that the reservoirs were completely full and that the misinformation being spread was harmful. He also mentioned that responding to Trump's insults would take another month, and that he was very familiar with them.

Trump had previously blamed Newsom for the crisis.

On Saturday, the governor used social media to refute certain rumors about the fire.

Newsom explained on Pod Save America why he decided to investigate the "lack of water pressure at local fire hydrants" and the "inadequacy of water supplies from the Santa Ynez Reservoir."

"We should focus on obtaining the facts and sharing them promptly, without accusing anyone. We should only concentrate on determining the truth. I don't care about who is responsible; I want to know what happened."

The governor's decision to appear on the podcast was defended by a spokesperson for Newsom in a statement to the Daily Beast.

In 2025, the Governor is solely focused on providing critical updates and resources to Californians through various news outlets, including one of the largest podcasts in the country, with hosts who reside in the impacted LA area, according to Brandon Richards, a spokesperson for the governor.
