Gov. DeSantis continues to criticize New York Magazine's 'Welcome to Kamalot' cover.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis accused the media of attempting to "create" Harris as a presidential candidate despite her lack of interest.
On Monday, several jokes about a New York Magazine cover featuring Vice President Kamala Harris titled "Welcome to Kamalot" were shared on social media.
The X post announced the release of a new issue that explores the impact of the two weeks that transformed the 2024 election and the excitement of choosing Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee, with a link to the report.
After President Joe Biden dropped out of the reelection race, our latest issue focuses on the exciting and potentially dangerous presidential campaign of Kamala Harris.
Social media users ripped both the image and the message.
Stephen Miller of The Spectator stated that the play on words centers around a fictional monarch who did not receive any votes from those under their rule.
According to Joe Gabriel Simonson of The Washington Free Beacon, the play on words used by a magazine to reference an earlier media-driven myth about a previous Democratic president is somewhat ironic.
Not the Bee also made fun of the cover with "Monty Python" references.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis posted the image and claimed that the media was attempting to "fabricate" Harris as a presidential candidate despite her claims to the contrary.
"Sarah Lee, a Townhall.com writer, described the setting as "garish and dystopian," while others referred to it as "weird" and "cringe.""
But some Harris supporters were inspired by the picture.
"Kamala Harris has energized the Democratic Party in one week like nobody has ever seen." - The Democratic Coalition wrote. "We love Kamalot!"
In the new issue, editor-in-chief David Haskell stated that since the last issue was sent to the printer, Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt, J.D. Vance joined his ticket, the Republicans celebrated their impending victory in Milwaukee all week, Joe Biden contracted COVID-19, his closest Democratic peers pressured him to exit the race, and Kamala Harris quickly clinched the race to succeed him.
He added that they tackled a complex issue, explored the potential biggest financial-political scandal of Trump's second term, sent the Look Book to a nude beach at Sandy Hook, and included a lengthy, low-stakes literary-world beach read.
After dropping out of the presidential race, President Biden endorsed Harris for president. Since then, several media outlets have defended her from past controversies, including her past role as Biden's "border czar."
In March 2021, Biden appointed Harris as the "border czar" to tackle the root causes of mass migration from Central and South America. Despite the Biden administration's rejection of the title, it was widely used by her critics and several news organizations. Now, Harris appears set to replace Biden as the Democratic ticket's top candidate.
Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, has suggested that Harris' selection as the next nominee is undemocratic because it bypasses the voters.
Vance stated at an Ohio rally that the threat to democracy is not the Republican Party, which is constantly fighting for democracy.
If Harris wins the Democratic Party's nomination, the Trump campaign said Monday that Trump will debate her. The Democratic National Convention is from August 19 to August 22.
