Goldberg alleges bakery turned her away due to political beliefs: "They weren't fond of my views"
Goldberg alleged that the bakery turned her away due to political differences.
On "The View," Whoopi Goldberg asserted that a renowned Staten Island bakery turned her away due to her political beliefs, but the bakery's proprietor has refuted the accusations.
On Wednesday's episode of "The View," Goldberg and her co-hosts commemorated her 69th birthday by enjoying Charlotte Russe desserts, a beloved New York treat that Goldberg revealed was her mother's favorite.
Goldberg defended Pussycat Dolls singer after "Make Jesus First Again" hat backlash: "It's just a hat."
Goldberg stated that her ovens had malfunctioned, but people still retrieved them, which is why she is not disclosing who made them. She asserted that her order was not rejected due to her gender, but because "they did not agree with my political views." Goldberg, a vocal liberal, will not mention President-elect Trump's name on air.
Goldberg encouraged her audience and co-hosts to celebrate her mother's birthday with her, despite any possible snub.
By examining the Charlotte Russe desserts, Entertainment Weekly identified Holtermann's Bakery, a 145-year-old family-owned establishment on Staten Island. The packaging, with pink polka dots on a white paper cup, was a tell-tale sign that the desserts came from the family bakery.
Jill Holtermann, the bakery owner, refuted Goldberg's account, stating that the bakery's problems were not politically driven but were caused by mechanical issues with their boilers, a persistent problem in their 1930-built establishment.
""Whoopi and I discussed my inability to do something at the moment due to issues with my boiler," Holtermann shared with the outlet."
Holtermann confirmed that she ultimately managed to make 50 treats, which were picked up early Wednesday morning for "The View's" taping. She reiterated that her inability to immediately confirm the order had nothing to do with Goldberg’s political beliefs, adding, "I didn’t want to make a commitment that I can't carry through," given the existing technical difficulties. Since the episode aired, Holtermann's Bakery has been "bombarded" with calls. However, the bakery refused Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
