Gender-affirming care epidemic: Riley Gaines investigates the largest medical fraud in history
Now streaming on Fox Nation: 'Transfixed'
Riley Gaines became a prominent figure in the battle to protect the advancements of women's sports by highlighting fairness in an era where the inclusion of transgender athletes is still a contentious issue.
The former NCAA swimmer is now focusing on the negative consequences of the gender-affirming care craze.
"Children who've had their bodies mutilated are the biggest victims in this story, not female athletes," Gaines said, previewing the new Fox Nation special, "Transfixed."
Gaines interviewed Prisha Mosley, a detransitioner whose female-to-male journey began at age 16 and ended unexpectedly just a few years ago, in a special available for streaming on the platform Thursday.
Mosley mourned the loss of her body parts, stating that there was no way to replace them after undergoing surgical treatment following the revelation that she was a boy.
At age 18, Mosley, who was born female, underwent surgery to remove her breasts and began taking male hormones, resulting in scars across her chest.
Despite hormonal interventions usually resulting in infertility, Mosley defied the norm and gave birth to a baby boy via C-section earlier this year.
According to a report, her gender-affirming care resulted in her hips being too narrow for natural childbirth, increased her insulin levels, and caused her uterus, bladder, and vagina to atrophy.
Walt Heyer, founder of the Sex Change Regret organization, stated that the gender-affirming care push is the largest medical fraud of our time.
In 1944, Heyer became fascinated with the clothing his grandmother sewed.
"She made me a full-length evening dress in purple chiffon, put me in it, and told me how cute I looked, which started the confusion," he said.
"When I was eight years old, my Uncle Fred began sexually abusing me because of cross-dressing, which resulted in emotional and psychological child abuse at the age of four. As a result of the dress, my dad also physically harmed me through heavy discipline."
As an adult, he experienced depression and an urge to cross-dress during marriage and fatherhood.
He sought out counseling and turned to the best in the industry.
At the time, Heyer was making great money and could afford the best therapists available, as he recalled.
"I went to him and he diagnosed me with gender dysphoria. When I shared my history of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse as a child, he responded, "Well, that doesn't matter." At the time, I was 39 or 40 years old."
He later realized that sexual abuse is a common trigger for people with gender dysphoria, and now he insists on it. According to the Mayo Clinic, gender dysphoria is the psychological distress experienced when one's gender identity conflicts with their biological sex or sex characteristics.
Heyer initially transitioned, but later detransitioned. Now, he uses his voice to caution others about the potential harm of transitioning, as he and Mosley are not the only individuals to face difficulties related to gender dysphoria.
The debate over gender-affirming care for minors is ongoing and may be limited in certain regions.
In the UK, transgender activists staged protests following the NHS's decision to halt the prescription of puberty blockers to minors, due to a lack of evidence regarding their benefits and risks.
In the U.S., some surgeons, including ASPS President Dr. Steven Williams, advised against treating minors.
On Monday, Planet Chronicle reported that physicians are driven by evidence, compassion, and patient interaction when providing care. However, when it comes to determining the appropriate care for patients, physicians must rely on the evidence, which is still developing in the field of adolescent care. Currently, there isn't enough evidence to guide care for adolescents.
