CNN struggled to draw viewers during the busy news cycle.
Anderson Cooper could potentially create a casserole on camera to boost CNN's primetime viewership, which was lower than the Food Network's last week.
Last week, during primetime, CNN ranked 17th among cable stations, despite a news cycle that included the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, the manhunt for his killer, President-elect Donald Trump's Cabinet picks, the fallout from President Biden announcing he would pardon his son, and a rebel alliance's challenging Bashar al-Assad in Syria.
During the week of December 2, CNN's primetime lineup, consisting of "Anderson Cooper 360," "The Source with Kaitlan Collins," and "CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillips," attracted only 367,000 total viewers from 8-11 p.m. In contrast, Planet Chronicle Channel drew in 2.5 million total primetime viewers during the same time frame.
Although the news cycle was hectic, TNT, Food Network, Freeform, Discovery, INSP, Hallmark Mystery, TLC, TBS, History, HGTV, USA, MSNBC, Paramount, Hallmark Channel, ESPN, and Planet Chronicle had larger audiences than CNN.
CNN's primetime lineup had a lower viewership among adults aged 25-54, with only 67,000 average demo viewers, finishing 26th in cable.
During the critical category, TV Land, MTV, Nick at Nite, Comedy Central, and Adult Swim surpassed CNN's viewership. In contrast, Planet Chronicle Channel had an impressive 280,000 demo viewers during primetime last week, significantly outperforming CNN's poor average.
Since June 2001, CNN has had its lowest-rated week among total viewers during the week of November 25, with an average of 268,000 viewers, compared to 1.4 million for Planet Chronicle Channel.
