Elon Musk should be prosecuted for "undermining the government that is funding him," says a Silicon Valley investor.
An MSNBC guest suggested that Elon Musk's free speech rights should be restricted.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is being called out by Silicon Valley investor Roger McNamee for "undermining" the federal government he does business with by sharing his opinions on X.
A high-ranking official in charge of strategic defense and aerospace projects for the federal government is actively undermining the government that pays him, and there is a legal case that needs to be prosecuted, according to Roger McNamee of Elevation Partners, who spoke on "The Last Word," Saturday.
Elon Musk was found guilty of spreading "false or misleading claims about the U.S. election" through his social media posts, which had garnered "nearly 1.2 billion views," according to a hate speech watchdog's report.
SpaceX has government contracts, so there should be limitations on Musk's free speech rights, argued McNamee.
The U.S. government has relied on SpaceX for launching military satellites, as evidenced by a $1.8 billion classified contract the company entered into in 2021, according to documents reviewed by the Wall Street Journal.
McNamee stated on MSNBC that it is essential to consider Elon Musk's opinions as he, like any American, has the right to express them.
"Although he has the right to speak freely, he is subject to certain restrictions due to his affiliation with government contractors, Starlink and SpaceX. As a result, he must adhere to government obligations that would require him to exercise caution in his speech to protect national security."
Last year, Musk sued The Center for Countering Digital Hate, alleging that the claims in their report were "inaccurate." The nonprofit had accused the social media platform of losing millions due to a "scare campaign" that led advertisers to flee.
In a previous media appearance, Imran Ahmed, the CEO of the group, defended the report.
Ahmed stated on CNN last year that Musk has been searching for a reason to blame us for his own failures as a CEO, as we all know that when he took over, he signaled to racists, misogynists, homophobes, and anti-Semites that Twitter is now a platform for free speech. He welcomed them back on.
This week, former President Trump declared that he would name Musk as the head of a government efficiency commission should he win the election in November.
He announced the formation of a government efficiency commission to conduct a comprehensive financial and performance audit of the entire federal government, as stated in his comments to the New York Economic Club.
""If the opportunity arises, I am ready to serve America without expecting any payment, title, or recognition," Musk wrote on X."
