Elon Musk criticizes the lawlessness in a blue city, drawing parallels to the chaos depicted in the 'Joker' film.
'Philadelphia is not a safe place under Democrat rule,' a Republican account stated.
Elon Musk criticized an unlawful street takeover in Philadelphia, which officials claimed resulted from a series of violent street racing incidents over the weekend.
From 9:30 p.m. Saturday night to 5 a.m. Sunday morning, Philadelphia police reported that several incidents occurred at various locations throughout the city. Large crowds and between 50 to 200 vehicles were present at each location.
The footage from the events depicted cars spinning in circles while individuals set off fireworks and started fires. Additionally, certain videos showed crowds destroying police vehicles, such as one where a group of people attacked and damaged a police cruiser.
"I believe I witnessed this scene in The Joker," Musk stated on X in reaction to a video of a police car being engulfed by a large crowd shared by the Republican House Judiciary.
"Philadelphia is not a safe place under Democrat rule," the House Judiciary GOP account stated.
In "Joker," the film released in 2019, the Joker is depicted in the back of a police car as riots erupt and Gotham City descends into chaos. He later emerges on the wrecked police car, surrounded by a cheering crowd.
Conservative X influencer Joey Mannarino made another debaucherous pop culture reference.
"The city where the Declaration of Independence was signed now resembles a game of Grand Theft Auto, which is disheartening," he remarked.
During a news conference on Monday, Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner Mike Cram stated that some members of the mob physically pursued our officers, displaying an "aggressiveness" that was concerning.
"Cram stated that there were officers in the car who were jumping on the windshield, causing physical damage. He emphasized that their actions were not concerned with the safety of others, but rather their own safety. Cram pointed out that videos of their behavior had been widely seen and showed that they did not care about the consequences of their actions. In his opinion, their goal was to create as much chaos as possible."
The officers were "trapped" inside the car as the mob swarmed the patrol unit, and police were "definitely targeted" during the overnight incidents, according to Cram.
Five Philadelphia police cars were damaged, with broken windshields and flat tires, and one officer sustained minor injuries when a vehicle struck his patrol car and fled.
"This isn't a third world country. This is PHILADELPHIA," said podcaster Graham Allen.
