Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy approve a "reasonable proposal" to eliminate the Department of Education.
Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., criticized the DOE's recent audit findings.
The Department of Education will be abolished, as approved by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, who are appointments of President-elect Donald Trump's Department of Government Efficiency.
The Department of Education has failed an audit for three consecutive years, according to Corey DeAngelis, a senior fellow at the American Culture Project.
DeAngelis, a school choice advocate, wrote, "Abolish it."
"Very reasonable proposal." Ramaswamy responded.
"Yes," Musk, the owner of Tesla, added.
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) aims to propose solutions for streamlining government bureaucracy and reorganizing federal agencies to reduce expenses and enhance productivity. However, DOGE is not an official government entity, and its structure and methods of operation are yet to be determined.
Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman, criticized the education department in a report posted by DeAngelis for their poor performance in the latest audit.
"Just in case we needed more evidence that Secretary Cardona has failed students, now we have the numbers. Despite two consecutive failed audits, Cardona has managed to make the situation even worse, failing to fulfill his promise to 'revamp' and address the audit failures. Fortunately, the Trump administration will take over soon and clean up the messes left behind by the Biden-Harris administration. We can only hope that January 20th arrives quickly."
Trump signaled during the campaign that he supports abolishing the department.
Trump announced that he plans to prioritize closing the Department of Education in Washington, D.C., and returning all education and education work to the states.
