Residents in Brooklyn are furious over the decision by city officials to open an all-male migrant shelter near an elementary school in New York City as students prepare to return to class.

"Brooklyn mom Irina Edelstein said on "Fox & Friends First" Thursday, "I make an effort not to worry too much about this, as there's already enough hustle and bustle with getting ready for school. I try to keep anxiety at bay.""

A 400-bed migrant shelter was opened in Gowanus in April, about 1,000 feet away from City Life Academy, a private Christian K-12 school.

The Brooklyn community was furious over the perceived lack of transparency from city officials and the close proximity of a shelter to a school.

"The mother of three stated that they were not informed about the shelter's arrival from the city side. Instead, they learned about it from local residents who stopped them during a pickup. The residents informed them that the shelter, which could house 400 men, was opening up right around the corner. None of the mother's family members, including the principal, were aware of the shelter's arrival."

An investigation by the International Women's Forum (IWF) found that city officials disregarded environmental testing protocols and building codes to expedite the opening of the shelter.

Edelstein stated that the council members' claim that they reached out to all schools and spoke to all principals is not true.

The NYC Mayor's Office declined to comment on Planet Chronicle Digital's request.

Despite being thousands of miles away from the southern border, New York City, including Brooklyn, is grappling with an overwhelming influx of migrants. Officials report that over 200,000 migrants have arrived in the city since the spring of 2022.

The migrant crisis has led New York City to allocate more funds for sanctuary city services, with projections indicating that the city will spend over $10 billion on the crisis by 2025.

The surge of migrants has resulted in an increase in crime, including high-profile incidents such as the attack on NYPD officers and a migrant accused of raping a woman at knifepoint.

While picking up her children from school, Edelstein saw an alleged migrant attempting to break into her car.

One parent stopped me while I was walking back to my car and said that two guys had just passed by my car and tried to open it while I was inside the school. She also mentioned that they looked like residents of the nearby shelter.
