Detroit autoworkers express frustration with Kamala Harris' lack of support for blue-collar workers: "She hasn't done anything for us."
Union members have been hesitant to support Harris.
Autoworkers in Detroit, Michigan shared their views on electric vehicle mandates and the 2024 presidential candidates, including former President Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, with Planet Chronicle Digital.
Mashama, a UAW and Stellantis employee, stated that Harris is facing difficulties with working-class voters due to her inability to comprehend the struggles of a Black man.
Mashama, a supporter of Trump, stated that she works for the UAW and Chrysler Stellantis but hasn't done anything for them.
A supporter of Harris who works at the Stellantis Warren Truck Assembly plant in Michigan said the recent layoffs at the assembly were "devastating" when asked about his thoughts on the matter.
Despite Howard's conviction that Harris would excel in the automobile industry, he was unable to elucidate why Harris was facing difficulties with blue-collar voters.
He said, "Although I couldn't inform you, I know she's for the people, so that's why she's getting my vote."
Union members in Michigan, traditionally Democratic voters, have been hesitant to support Harris.
A poll conducted by the influential Teamsters union in Michigan revealed that its members preferred Trump (61.7%) over Harris (35.2%). Despite supporting Biden's campaign in 2020, the union's national leadership declined to make an endorsement in this year's presidential race.
The International Association of Fire Fighters endorsed Biden but did not back Harris, while the UAW and the Service Employees International Union supported Harris.
Marcus, a motorcycle parts builder and Trump supporter, stated that Harris is having difficulty gaining blue-collar worker support because she "does not meet the criteria."
Planet Chronicle Digital reported that he stated she has no knowledge about current events and is being manipulated like a marionette.
In addition to their opinions on the electric vehicle mandate, voters were also queried about their thoughts on the matter.
Mashama, a native of Detroit's west side, stated that an electric vehicle mandate would "destroy us" and "the whole economy as middle class America."
"I don't think that's right," he added.
Ricky, a Redford, Mich., native, stated that an electric vehicle mandate is not a good idea.
He explained that it's not a good idea because people are not ready for it yet, while wearing a shirt with the UAW logo on it.
He added, "Although we used to reproduce more than we do now, I believe it won't sell well. Furthermore, I don't think it's right to make people buy them against their will."
Planet Chronicle' Michael Lee contributed to this report.
