Critics of Trump on social media blast Biden's preemptive pardons.
On Monday, Gen. Mark Milley expressed gratitude to President Biden after accepting his pardon.
The last-minute preemptive pardons issued by President Biden to some of President-elect Donald Trump's biggest critics, including Gen. Mark Milley, former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney and Dr. Anthony Fauci, were met with criticism on social media just hours before he leaves office.
Journalist Glenn Greenwald wrote that Joe Biden's pardon of Liz Cheney and others on his last day in office is a reflection of the American political realignment and the corrupted soul of the Democratic Party.
Biden granted preemptive pardons to all members of the House Jan. 6 committee, including Milley and Fauci. Milley accepted the pardon, while Fauci thanked the president but maintained his innocence.
Trump texted Welker his reaction, which read, "It is disgraceful. Many are guilty of MAJOR CRIMES!"
Biden's pardon of Fauci definitively establishes who is responsible for the COVID pandemic, according to Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky.
Milley thanked Biden in a statement on Monday.
"I am deeply grateful for the President's action today," he wrote. "After forty-three years of faithful service in uniform to our Nation, protecting and defending the Constitution, I do not wish to spend my remaining time fighting those who unjustly might seek retribution for perceived slights."
He stated that he did not want to put his family, friends, and fellow soldiers through the resulting distraction, expense, and anxiety.
Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., wrote on social media, "The swamp safeguards its own."
Biden clarified in a statement that the issuance of these pardons does not imply any admission of guilt or wrongdoing, and their acceptance should not be misinterpreted as such.
During an appearance on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Monday, former Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill expressed her disappointment over the "sad" pardons and stated that it sets a precedent for the incoming president.
In early December, Biden faced criticism for granting a pardon to his son, Hunter Biden, despite his repeated claims that he upheld the rule of law and would respect the verdict of his son's trial.
The president stated in a December declaration that he had promised not to interfere with the Justice Department's decision-making and had kept his word, despite witnessing his son being unfairly and selectively prosecuted.
Fauci was pardoned by Biden, but this does not mean he is innocent. If Fauci were innocent, no pardon would be necessary. The evidence suggests that Fauci played a role in creating the Covid pandemic and covering it up. Therefore, an investigation must be conducted, and all Covid and Fauci files must be released.
"Except for those who receive blanket, preemptive pardons, no one is exempt from the law," Mary Kathrine Ham wrote. "Shame until the end."
Despite speculation that they may face backlash from the incoming administration, Special Counsel Jack Smith, former FBI Director Christopher Wray, and Attorney General Merrick Garland are not included in the pardon.
