Conservatives online rejoiced at Justin Trudeau's resignation: 'The winning continues!'
President-elect Trump stated that if Canada were to be absorbed into the U.S., the nation would be even greater.
The embattled Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his upcoming resignation, sparking joy among his critics on social media.
On Monday, Trudeau declared that he plans to step down as party leader and prime minister after facing mounting criticism from his own Liberal Party over his management of the economy and immigration. He stated that he will resign once a new leader is chosen by the party.
"I plan to step down as party leader and Prime Minister after the Liberal Party selects its next leader through a comprehensive national process," Trudeau announced to reporters. "Last night, I instructed the party president to initiate the process. This nation requires a genuine election choice, and I have come to realize that if I am preoccupied with internal strife, I cannot be the most suitable candidate in the upcoming election."
For nearly a decade, Trudeau led the nation, but in recent months, his approval ratings have significantly dropped due to mounting frustration over issues such as the high cost of living and inflation.
Social media critics of Trudeau, who have criticized him for various reasons such as trade policy and treatment of protesting truckers, were ecstatic.
Donald Trump, the newly elected president, expressed his view on Truth Social that Canada should be absorbed as a new part of the United States.
"Canada's love for being the 51st State is widespread. The United States can no longer bear the massive trade deficits and subsidies that Canada requires to stay afloat. Justin Trudeau recognized this and resigned. If Canada were to merge with the U.S., there would be no tariffs, taxes would decrease significantly, and they would be completely secure from the threat of Russian and Chinese ships that constantly surround them. This would make for a great nation, he wrote."
"Rob Schneider, a conservative actor, declared, "The WINNING CONTINUES!!!" and added, "Bye Bye, JT!! CANADA LIBRE.""
Gina Carano honored the Canadian truckers and patriots who stood up for freedom by sharing a video clip of the announcement and offering a "Honk Honk" in tribute. She also encouraged Canadians to keep fighting for proper leadership that represents them.
Carol Roth sarcastically congratulated Justin Trudeau on his new MSNBC show, implying that he, like many fallen political figures, would find employment on a liberal news network.
Before his speech began, the wind blew away some commentators' reactions to the papers on his podium.
Marc Thiessen, a Planet Chronicle contributor, joked that this statement is a metaphor for his entire premiership.
Amy Eileen Hamm humorously referenced a well-known quote from "The Help," and quipped, "It was merely 10 pages in his own handwriting that read: 'You is strong. You is beautiful. You is important.'"
After his announcement, "thank goodness" and "good riddance" posts were scattered throughout X.
