CNN was criticized by a comedian after Don Lemon was let go from the network.
'The previous Black individual who consumed alcohol on this platform was terminated,' Roy Wood Jr. stated.
On Tuesday night, a comedian brought up a challenging aspect of CNN's history during a New Year's Eve segment hosted by Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen.
"Roy Wood Jr., known for his "Daily Show" appearances, stated, "Oh no. No, I don't. The last Black man to drink on this network got fired," before adding, "I'm going to keep it with water for right now. I need some stability.""
During the New Year's specials, Don Lemon, a former host of the network, was seen drinking while covering the event. Michael Ian Black and Amber Ruffin, who were also present in Times Square, accepted the offer of a shot.
"Have I Got News for You" is a weekly Saturday comedy quiz show on CNN, co-hosted by Wood, Black, and Ruffin.
The primetime hosting spot of the left-leaning host was replaced by a three-person team on the revamped morning program, but the show failed to launch.
In 2023, Lemon infuriated his network colleagues by stating that Nikki Haley, who was 51 at the time, was no longer in her prime. This remark was particularly controversial given that Haley was discussing age concerns for President Biden, who would ultimately be forced to drop out of the race a year later due to opposition from members of his own party.
Licht dropped Lemon two months later, and he was shown the door in June of that year.

He maintained his stance on his YouTube show comments from Tuesday, dismissing his critics as "butthurt."
"Lemon clarified that his statement did not apply to all Trump supporters, but specifically to those who are "MAGA-brained" and will defend any behavior of Donald Trump or the MAGA movement, regardless of its morality."
He affirmed, "Indeed, I maintain my statement! If you dislike my words, then too bad, I am indifferent!"
Trump supporters were criticized for their hypocrisy in attacking Lemon's language while defending their "cult leader."
Lemon stated that he believes the person in the Oval Office has lower expectations from him, an independent journalist and former cable news host, than he does from him, despite his mouth being worse.
Time Magazine was criticized by Lemon for selecting Trump as their Person of the Year, with Lemon deeming the decision a "joke."
Lemon stated that if they wanted to select someone as Person of the Year, they could have chosen anyone, including someone who advocates for democracy in their country.
