Several presidential campaigns were worked on by a veteran Republican consultant.
Longtime Republican political adviser and CNN commentator Alice Stewart passed away suddenly at the age of 58.
Early Saturday morning, Stewart was discovered in a northern Virginia neighborhood. According to reports, law enforcement officials suspect she passed away due to a medical emergency, and no suspicious activities are suspected.
"Mark Thompson, CEO of CNN, wrote in a message to network staff on Saturday that Alice was a very dear friend and colleague to all of them. Alice was a political veteran and an Emmy Award-winning journalist who brought an incomparable spark to CNN’s coverage. She was known across the bureaus not only for her political savvy but for her unwavering kindness. The network is mourning the loss of such an extraordinary person."
Before joining CNN as a commentator, Stewart was a seasoned communications expert in Republican politics, having served as communications director for several presidential campaigns, including Ted Cruz's 2016 campaign and Mike Huckabee's 2008 and 2016 campaigns, as well as Michelle Bachmann and Rick Santorum's 2012 bids.
""Alice was a wonderful and talented friend who loved America fiercely and lived every day to the fullest. She will be deeply missed, and God's comfort and peace be upon her loved ones. RIP," Cruz wrote on X Saturday."
Dana Bash of CNN described her as a "woman of intelligence, expertise, and kindness, who brought support along with her smarts."
Stewart also previously served as deputy secretary of state for Arkansas.
Stewart had a successful media career prior to entering politics. She worked as a reporter and anchor in Little Rock, Arkansas and Savannah, Georgia, and was an associate producer in Atlanta. Additionally, she hosted a podcast with Maria Cardona.
Stewart frequently appeared on CNN shows, offering a distinctive viewpoint as a Republican who supported Donald Trump. In a 2020 interview with Harvard Political Review, Deadline reported that Stewart openly shared her opinions.
"As a conservative commentator at CNN, I offer my perspective on current politics from my conservative perspective. Conservatism encompasses a range of viewpoints, including support for Donald Trump and those who oppose him. While I am a supporter of the president, I often disagree with his tone and behavior and speak out against it."
On Saturday, CNN honored and mourned the loss of Stewart, with tributes pouring in online from friends and colleagues who praised her as a smart, funny, and kind person.
Wolf Blitzer stated on Saturday that we invited her to appear on my show because we believed we would become slightly more intelligent after our conversation.
Kayleigh McEnany, a Planet Chronicle host, wrote about Alice Stewart, a woman of God who was known for her kindness, talent, and faith. She expressed her sincere condolences to her family and offered her prayers.
