CNN analyst: Delayed Biden DNC speech not a significant issue for Dems.
Biden's DNC speech was delayed and ended after midnight Eastern Time.
Bakari Sellers, a CNN analyst, refuted a claim that the DNC had committed a "cardinal sin" by moving President Biden's speech to late Monday night due to scheduling delays.
According to New York Times reporter Peter Baker, the Democrats' tribute plan was disorganized, resulting in a series of speeches that lasted too long. As a result, Mr. Biden was pushed out of the prime time slot on the East Coast. His speech began at approximately 11:30 p.m. in Washington, which is considered a major faux pas in modern convention planning.
The outgoing president's video tribute was abandoned because Democrats were significantly behind schedule.
On Tuesday morning, Sellers criticized Baker, saying, "It's bizarre that such intelligent and skilled individuals can make such obvious mistakes."
"Sellers pointed out that Peter fails to understand that these speeches are now accessible online and can be found on social media and TikTok, making them different from the traditional ways people consume speeches."
"Giving a speech at 11:30 does not mean it's 1940 and people have to gather around the radio to listen," he added.
On Monday night, Biden delivered a speech at the DNC, four weeks after ending his presidential campaign and supporting Vice President Harris. His speech lasted until after midnight Eastern Time.
Democrats were criticized for postponing Biden's speech, which was seen as a disrespectful act towards the president.
Officials from the DNC stated that Biden's speech was delayed because of the extensive applause given to the previous speakers.
"To ensure a direct address from President Biden to the American people, we had to skip certain elements of our program due to the disruptive applause during the speeches. We are proud of the lively atmosphere in our convention hall and proud that our convention is highlighting the diverse coalition supporting the Harris-Walz ticket throughout the week, both on and off the stage."
