During Hamas' Oct. 7 attack on a music festival in Southern Israel, Goldberg-Polin was abducted and later found with his hand and part of his arm missing due to a grenade explosion, as shown in video footage taken by Hamas.
"He was murdered," Israel responded in a statement on X.
Six hostages, including Israeli-American Goldberg-Polin, were brutally murdered in Gaza, according to Israel's military.

On Saturday, six hostages were killed by Hamas terrorists, including the Israeli-American Goldberg-Polin, as Israel Defense Forces prepared for a rescue mission in the tunnels beneath Gaza's Rafah.
Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, an IDF spokesperson, stated that based on our initial evaluation, they were brutally murdered by Hamas terrorists right before we arrived on the scene.
On Saturday, the bodies of Carmel Gat, Eden Yerushalmi, Alexander Lobanov, Almog Sarusi, and Master Sergeant Ori Danino were found in the tunnels, along with that of the individual.
The White House confirmed the murders at 11:00 p.m. Saturday, but CNN shared on X that the hostages had "died" hours later. Additionally, CNN's entire 12:00 a.m. story did not mention in the text that the hostages were murdered.
John Spencer of the Modern War Institute at West Point criticized CNN for its coverage of the murder of an American hostage in Gaza, stating that Hamas was responsible for the kidnapping, mutilation, and eventual killing of the hostage, who was held illegally for over 10 months.
The Biden administration met with Goldberg-Polin's family and friends who traveled the world to demand his release.
Biden expressed his devastation and outrage over the death of Goldberg-Polin.
