Chicago alderman warns of migrant surge ahead of DNC: "We can't handle any more."
The Democratic National Convention is expected to attract up to 25,000 migrants in Chicago.
Up to 25,000 migrants are expected to arrive in Chicago before the Democratic National Convention next month, prompting one local alderman to warn that the city is already strained with resources.
""Fox & Friends First" reported on Friday that Anthony Napolitano stated that Chicago cannot handle any more illegal immigrants being sent to the city at this time. He added that the only positive outcome from this situation is that it will show at a national level that sanctuary cities are a failure."
Officials in the city discussed plans for a possible increase in arrivals following Gov. Abbott's pledge at the RNC to transport migrants to sanctuary cities.
"Deputy Mayor Beatriz Ponce de León stated on Tuesday that they are ready to accommodate several thousand people beyond their current shelter capacity. They are considering opening just-in-time shelters in certain locations to help manage a sudden influx of new arrivals for a limited time."
The city's hosting of thousands of Democratic delegates, guests, and the media could result in a potential nightmare for first responders and police.
Over the past nine years, our city has experienced more than 30,000 gunshot victims. Now, we are hosting a convention that may be seen as a potential protest and riot spectacle.
"Chicagoans will have to clean up the mess, as we are so tapped out here and it will hurt us badly."
The alderman accused Democratic leadership and Kamala Harris of promoting extreme policies that endanger cities.
He stated that the candidate coming to the city is A, who advocates for defunding the police, and B, who supports open borders. These are two significant issues affecting our city.
"The politicians who have served our city deserve everything they receive in Chicago."
The United Center will host the Democratic National Convention from Aug. 19 to Aug. 22.
