CBS News CEO previously donated thousands to Democrats; network facing various controversies.
Multiple controversies have plunged CBS into turmoil.
A report has revealed that the CEO of CBS News donated over $6,000 to Democrats during the 2020 election, amidst the network facing several controversies.
In 2020, Wendy McMahon, the CEO of a broadcast network, donated $6,100 to President Joe Biden's campaign and Democratic fundraising platforms, according to FEC filings. McMahon, who was working for ABC at the time, made nine donations in the final three months before the election.
The chief executive of CBS, George Cheeks, reportedly donated hundreds of dollars to President Biden's campaign and other Democrats in the 2020 election, as well as multiple donations to the Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue, according to The Telegraph.
CBS is in turmoil this week amid multiple controversies.
CBS has been accused of editing a clip of Vice President Kamala Harris's "word salad" answer to make it sound more succinct and coherent during a "60 Minutes" interview this week. The original clip from the Democratic nominee first aired on "Face the Nation" on Sunday.
Since 2021, McMahon has been the head of CBS News and did not participate in editing the interview.
CBS News employees are prohibited from contributing to political parties or campaigns, but this rule does not apply to Cheeks since he is not part of the news department. McMahon made donations while working for ABC, according to The Telegraph.
Trump accused CBS of committing an "unprecedented scandal" by editing Harris' interview on "60 Minutes," and he demanded the network's broadcasting license to be revoked.
An interview conducted by "CBS Mornings" anchor Tony Dokoupil resulted in internal conflict among colleagues who accused him of being too critical of an anti-Israel author.
The Jewish CBS News anchor angered liberal colleagues by bluntly stating that Ta-Nehisi Coates' book read like something you would find in "the backpack of an extremist." Dokoupil questioned Coates about his stance on Israel's right to exist.
The book has been criticized for being heavily anti-Israel and for omitting significant context about Palestinian terrorism and the Jewish state's extraordinary security situation.
On Oct. 7, during a company conference call, McMahon and editorial chief Adrienne Roark scolded Dokoupil, causing outrage among staff members who supported the morning show anchor.
According to the Free Press, CBS leadership informed offended staff members that after a review, they determined that the interview did not meet the company's "editorial standards." The audio of the staff meeting was obtained by the Free Press.
According to the New York Times, Dokoupil eventually expressed regret for the interview causing tumult, but not for his line of questioning. However, Paramount Global chair Shari Redstone, who oversees CBS’ parent company, defended Dokoupil this week during a panel discussion, saying he had done a good job.
