CBS News addresses editing allegations in '60 Minutes' interview with Harris.
Trump accused CBS of deliberately editing a clip to favor Harris, calling for the network to lose its broadcasting license.
CBS News rejected former President Trump's accusation that "60 Minutes" manipulated its interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, declaring it "untrue" in a statement issued on Sunday.
CBS issued a statement on Sunday evening addressing the backlash that had been mounting for weeks following the "60 Minutes" interview with the Democratic nominee, in which two different answers to the same question were aired.
"Former President Donald Trump is claiming that 60 Minutes manipulated our Oct. 7 interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, which is untrue," the statement stated.
"Our interview with 'Face the Nation' featured a longer excerpt of her answer than what was shown on 60 Minutes. Although the same question and answer were used, a different portion of her response was shown. When editing interviews, we aim to be clear, accurate, and on point. The shorter section on 60 Minutes allowed for other topics to be covered in a 21-minute segment."
The Trump campaign denied having formally accepted an interview invitation with '60 Minutes' and Vice President Pence participated.
"We remain open to inviting former President Trump to discuss the issues facing the nation and the Harris interview on 60 Minutes."
An unedited video or full transcript of the interview conducted by CBS News has not been made public yet.
After Trump requested to end the interview with Howard Kurtz on Planet Chronicle, the statement was made hours later.
Kamala Harris' editing decision on '60 Minutes' has sparked controversy, and the show has a history of liberal controversies.
"Trump stated earlier on Sunday that he had never seen anything like the answer given by a woman on a news program. She gave a terrible and incompetent response, which made her appear dumb or incompetent. Trump criticized the woman's answer, stating that it was so bad that the people at CBS decided to edit it. They removed the entire answer and replaced it with a shorter one that was unrelated to the original topic."
In the "60 Minutes" interview with Harris earlier this month, CBS News faced criticism for airing two different answers to the same question. Harris was criticized by conservatives when footage of her giving a lengthy "word salad" was aired by CBS' "Face the Nation" to promote the interview, during which Bill Whitaker asked why it seemed like Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wasn't listening to the U.S.
The FCC received a complaint from the Center for American Rights (CAR) that the discrepancies in the vice president's and Harris's answers to the same question on "60 Minutes" amounted to deliberate news distortion, which is a violation of FCC rules governing broadcasters' public interest obligations.
Last week, former President Trump called for CBS to lose its broadcasting license, stating on Truth Social that the network and 60 Minutes were involved in a "giant Fake News Scam."
"He accused her of giving a crazy or dumb answer, so they replaced it with another one to save her or make her look better. This was a fake news scam, which is illegal," he claimed.
"Take away the CBS license," he said. "Election interference. She is a moron, and the fake news media wants to hide that fact. An unprecedented scandal! The Dems got them to do this, and they should be forced to concede the election? Wow!"
During a speech at the Detroit Economic Club, Trump criticized the liberal media.
Trump predicted that the fraud committed by '60 Minutes' and CBS, in collaboration with the Democrat Party, would be the biggest scandal in broadcast history.
