Carrie Underwood's performance for Trump raises questions about her love for country music.
Underwood was accused of normalizing Trump by performing 'America the Beautiful' at his inauguration.
On Tuesday, Joy Behar from "The View" criticized Carrie Underwood for performing at President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration and questioned her love for America.
Joy Behar, a co-host on The View, expressed her confusion about how someone could love their country while also supporting and normalizing a convicted felon who wants to destroy it. She asked, "How do you love your country and support and normalize somebody who was a convicted felon who really wants to destroy the country, in my opinion?"
Trump's inauguration on January 20 will feature Underwood performing "America the Beautiful," but co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin countered, stating that many Americans who voted for Trump are patriotic and proud of their country.
Behar stated that she would not advise against performing at Trump's inauguration because she supports free speech, but personally, she would not do it. She added that no one had asked her, but that was a separate matter.
Sunny Hostin respected Underwood's decision and stated, "Art is art, and you have the right to perform wherever you choose."
She agreed with me, stating that she couldn't sing and had not been asked, but if she were asked, it would be a definite no.
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg also said she respected Underwood's decision.
"Joe and Mika did what they did for their reasons, and I supported them, just like how I stand behind her," she said, referring to MSNBC's Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski's meeting with Trump at Mar-a-Lago.
On Monday, Underwood stated that she is "privileged" to perform at the U.S. Capitol on January 20 as Trump takes the oath of office.
"I am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event," Underwood stated, as reported by The Associated Press. "I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future."
Behar's remarks were not immediately responded to by Underwood's representative.
The Village People and Lee Greenwood, known for their hit song "Y.M.C.A.," which is frequently played at Trump rallies and is the president-elect's signature dance, will also perform at the inaugural events.
The Village People stated on Facebook on Monday that while they understand that some people may not be pleased to hear this, they believe that music should be performed without consideration for politics.
