Biden's claim of winning re-election if he had run again would have been 'flat-out bonkers,' says CNN data guru.
Enten stated that Biden was not ahead of Trump by any days.
Harry Enten, a senior political data reporter at CNN, criticized President Biden's assertion that he could have won re-election if he had decided to run in 2024.
Since President-elect Trump won convincingly in November, numerous Democrats have been proposing different strategies for the election, including Biden.
In a USA Today interview this week, Biden was asked if he would have won the election had he not dropped out on July 21. He replied, "It's presumptuous to say that, but I think yes." Biden added that he based his view on polling he had reviewed.
Enten, however, said Biden's claims were nonsense.
"According to polling data, Biden's statement that he could have beaten Trump is "flat out bonkers," as he wrote in a Wednesday X post. Biden was behind Trump when he dropped out and never led in all of 2024. Additionally, no incumbent president who was as unpopular as Biden has ever won."
In the video he posted along with the tweet, Enten explained why he believes that Trump's statement about winning the 2024 election if he had stayed in the race is flat-out unbelievable. He encouraged viewers to watch the video for more details.
Biden's polling numbers were analyzed by him, specifically in the Great Lake battleground states, where Trump had a significant lead with "all 3" states showing Trump in the lead.
In other major regions, he demonstrated similar advantages, but it was particularly noteworthy that Trump's lead was substantial in these crucial battleground states.
He exclaimed, "Wow, look at Trump's leads!" before expanding the scope of his analysis.
"Let's examine the entire 2024 campaign. According to him, when Biden was still running, he led Trump by zero days."
Enten summarized his findings after discovering that no incumbents had won with a negative approval rating.
The expert stated that Joe Biden was consistently behind and it is likely that he would have remained in that position.
