The New York Times published a report detailing President Biden's unsuccessful attempt to demonstrate his physical fitness and vigor to critics who questioned his age and suitability for the job.

Biden's team tried to showcase his physical strength to counter criticism of his age, according to sources close to the president.

The report on Friday revealed that Mr. Biden's pride and the belief that physical vitality could counter age concerns sometimes hindered his thinking, as recalled by those familiar with it.

According to The Times, Mike Donlon, Biden's longtime strategist, advised the president in 2022 that his biggest challenge was the perception of his age. Despite acknowledging the concerns, Biden's defiant and competitive nature was ignited, which led him to run for re-election in 2023, despite initially suggesting he would not.

"After being elected on his third attempt, Mr. Biden declared that he would be a transition president. However, his pride, legislative accomplishments, and strong performance in the 2022 midterms motivated him to seek re-election and embark on a quest to demonstrate his vitality."

Biden's pride reportedly motivated him to display his physical competence to the public. However, his efforts to showcase his vigor often had the unintended effect of highlighting his advancing years.

Biden "refused to wear an orthopedic boot" after fracturing his foot while playing with his dog just ahead of the inauguration, as shown in the report's examples.

"He opted to wear his leather brogues instead of appearing weak, as a 78-year-old president with a large, noticeable contraption on his foot and his hand on the Bible."

According to sources, the fracture did not heal, resulting in a shuffling gait that has persisted throughout his presidency.

He had a bike riding mishap because he wanted to appear fit.

"Despite his desire to demonstrate his physical agility, Mr. Biden's feet got tangled in the toe cages on his bike's pedals while he was stopped to speak with onlookers and reporters during the summer of 2022."

Biden's fall from his bike was caught on camera and went viral, with critics using it as ammunition against him. The incident was even turned into a political attack on T-shirts, according to The Times.

The "worst mishap" occurred when "Mr. Biden tripped over a sandbag at the Air Force Academy commencement," the speaker continued.

"On television, it seemed like an eternity for Secret Service agents to assist the president in standing up, which only took five seconds."

The White House declined to comment on Planet Chronicle Digital's request.
