Biden's administration and allies are either gullible or complicit in his lying about pardoning Hunter, according to Tapper.
Tapper claimed that Biden's decision to conceal his plans to pardon Hunter Biden was a strategic move to distinguish himself from Trump.
President Biden's decision to pardon his son, despite denials from him and his surrogates, has been criticized by CNN host Jake Tapper as an indictment of his administration.
On Monday, Tapper compared Biden's surrogates' claims that he wouldn't pardon Hunter Biden with NBC's reporting that the president had been discussing a pardon for his son with his aides since June.
"President Biden's false statements about this have made his administration and allies either gullible or complicit, including White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who has been repeating this to the American people for months," he said, before showing Jean-Pierre denying plans to pardon Hunter multiple times.
"Of course, there was a political advantage for President Biden and his allies in spreading this falsehood," Tapper stated. "In June, when Hunter Biden was convicted of three felony gun offenses, his father, the president, was still campaigning against former President Donald Trump. This incident provided Democrats and progressives with an opportunity to distinguish the current and former presidents."
On Sunday, President Biden issued a comprehensive pardon for his son Hunter Biden, who had previously stated that he would not receive one. Earlier this year, Hunter had been convicted of two federal cases: in September, he pleaded guilty to federal tax charges, and in June, he was found guilty of three felony gun charges after falsely claiming on a mandatory gun purchase form that he was not illegally using or addicted to drugs.
The president contended in a statement that Hunter was targeted solely due to his relationship with him and that there was an attempt to undermine Hunter in order to weaken him.
One Biden ally who praised the president's commitment to the rule of law is MSNBC legal analyst Andrew Weissman, who previously commended Biden for not pardoning his son and for living what it means to have a rule of law in the country.
President Biden is undermining his own Justice Department by not following the rule of law, as he claimed he would not do, beyond the pardon and the lie about the pardon, according to Tapper.
Weiss, the special counsel, has stated that there is no evidence of vindictive or selective prosecution in the case, as previously noted by Tapper.
