Biden criticized for making fun of reporter who questioned him about Hamas hostage deal: "SHAMEFUL"
Did you consider the possibility of being struck by a camera positioned behind you, Biden inquired of an Israeli journalist following her inquiry about hostages?
This week, footage from the Oval Office was released, showing President Biden making fun of a reporter who questioned him about achieving a hostage deal between Hamas and Israel before the end of his term, prompting social media users to criticize him.
In a clip shared to X by Israeli journalist Neria Kraus on Tuesday, Biden responded to her inquiry about whether he could oversee a deal before leaving office by asking her if she could "take a hit from the camera behind her."
The clip sparked outrage among X users, with pro-Israel comedian Michael Rapaport condemning Biden's remark as "DISGRACEFUL."
On Tuesday, a White House transcript recorded the remarks made in a clip of Kraus, which was recorded right before Biden's Oval Office meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog.
Can we secure a hostage deal before the end of your presidency, President Biden?
Biden began the meeting by asking, "Do you think you can avoid getting hit by a camera behind you?"
Biden and Herzog talked about Israel's ongoing conflict with Hamas and its supporters in the region after the terrorist group's October 7, 2023, massacre in Israel.
Biden was informed by Herzog that he understands the efforts being made to ensure the war ends and that the people of Israel and Lebanon have security, with 101 hostages being held in the Gaza Strip for over 400 days.
In her post, Kraus elaborated on Biden's quip by saying, "I questioned Biden about the possibility of achieving a hostage deal before the end of his term. He responded, making a reference to the numerous cameras present, saying, 'Do you think you can get hit in the head by the camera behind you?'"
Yashar Ali, a journalist, criticized Biden's remarks in response to a question about hostage families, stating that his responses have become "dementia adjacent" and that he gets easily annoyed with such questions.
Sean Parnell, a conservative commentator and author, criticized Biden's response, saying, "Biden's answer was absurd, particularly given that Americans are still being held captive."
According to Washington Examiner reporter Jeremiah Poff, "Biden has surpassed the stage of concern for anything."
"Is it truly surprising that millions of Americans believed they were being gaslit about Biden's condition and mental acuity?"
