Biden campaign co-chair praises Biden's sharpness after WSJ reports sources say he shows signs of improvement.
Sen. Chris Coons comments on media coverage of Biden's minor mistakes.
Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., is defending President Biden's cognitive health after reports from 45 sources to the Wall Street Journal indicated that he is exhibiting signs of decline in private.
Over the past few months, The Wall Street Journal interviewed 45 lawmakers and administration officials about the president's mental abilities. Republicans were the most critical of Biden's mental performance, while some Democrats acknowledged that he displayed his age in certain interviews.
On Wednesday, Coons stated on "The Story" that the Wall Street Journal article in question was written by respected reporters and published in a respected paper, but even the most skilled among us can make mistakes.
"I believe the article got it wrong because it didn't include quotes from those of us who have worked closely with President Biden, who can attest to his sharpness, engagement, and commanding presence in meetings and events."
The president's "minor slips" have been extensively covered by the media, indicating that public servants sometimes make mistakes due to the demands of their jobs.
"The yawning gap between President Biden and former President Trump is not just limited to their frequent missteps, but also extends to their character, values, and the choices they lay out for how they would govern if elected. Additionally, the way they have demonstrated respect for the rule of law and an understanding of the importance of the very democracy that the veterans of D-Day fought for is a significant difference between the two leaders."
Coons, a member of a bipartisan delegation that visited Taiwan and Singapore, stated that President Biden has been a strong leader in forming stronger and more capable alliances with U.S. allies.
The senator, after visiting the Manila cemetery, stated that the sacrifices made by Americans and allies during World War II were deeply felt, making it a "sobering experience."
