Biden and Trump collaborated as a unified team to achieve the cease-fire agreement, according to John Kirby.
Kirby stressed that the main priority is to rescue the hostages and end the conflict.
The Israel-Hamas cease-fire deal will be implemented after 467 days of war, according to White House National Security communications adviser John Kirby, who expressed confidence in the agreement and stated that there is "plenty of credit to go around."
"Kirby stated on Wednesday that the focus is not solely on credit. As the president said, the team is working together to bring Americans home with their families. There is plenty of credit to go around, not just in the United States, but also in Egypt, Qatar, and Prime Minister Netanyahu, who made courageous decisions during the negotiation."
Steve Witkoff, recognized by Kirby as a key figure in brokering the deal, was appointed as President-elect Donald Trump's incoming Middle East special envoy.
Biden's national security communications adviser stated that we worked on this as a unified team, in accordance with the expectations of the American people.
Kirby revealed that the president emphasized the importance of the Trump team, specifically Mr. Witkoff, being fully invested in everything the national security team was doing, as they would ultimately own it when the team left office.
"Mr. Witkoff collaborated with Brett McGurk, our Middle East coordinator, on multiple occasions over the past week to finalize details and complete the project. Mr. Witkoff acknowledged the enjoyable work experience he had while working with us."
Kirby states that the main objective is to achieve the deal, rescue the hostages, and end the war.
President-elect Trump and President Biden both aimed for the same goal and ensured that their teams achieved the same outcome, the speaker stated.
Kirby stated on Wednesday that he is "optimistic" about the implementation of the deal, but acknowledged that there is still "effort" required to resolve the ongoing conflict with Hamas since the Oct 7, 2023 attack on Israel.
On January 7th, President-elect Donald Trump threatened Hamas, stating that "all hell will break out" if the hostages are not returned before his inauguration.
The agreement will be implemented on January 19, which is one day prior to President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration.
Kirby stated that the "big hurdle" had been "overcome," which involved finalizing the deal, getting it inked, and getting it in place. "Hopefully, come this weekend, we'll start to see some families reunited," he said.
