Biden administration ally advises Democratic governors to avoid immediate rejection of Trump's border proposals.
According to CNN commentator and former Biden White official Kate Bedingfield, it is not beneficial for Democrats to oppose more aggressive border security.
Kate Bedingfield, a CNN commentator and former Biden White House communications director, advised Democratic governors against reacting impulsively to President-elect Trump's proposals for border security.
On Tuesday, during a CNN discussion about Trump's latest personnel picks for his upcoming administration, Bedingfield expressed his views on Trump's aggressive stance on tackling illegal immigration.
Bedingfield stated that it is not smart for Democratic governors to immediately take a stance of fighting against something without considering all the information.
The president-elect has appointed Tom Homan, a former Obama-era ICE official, as his border czar and named Stephen Miller, a former Trump senior adviser, as his deputy chief of staff of policy.
Blue state governors who have stated their opposition to the second Trump administration's deportation actions were warned by Homan to "move out of the way."
Bedingfield appeared to support Homan and the administration on CNN, urging governors to respect Trump's election victory and allow the President-elect to implement his border policies.
"She stated that Democratic governors should be attentive to the opinions expressed on Election Day, but this does not imply that they should fully support family separation and mass deportation."
Democratic lawmakers presented a highly aggressive border bill last year, which any Democratic governor should embrace, according to the former Biden official.
Trump's allies' harsh rhetoric about U.S. southern border security is why Democratic leaders oppose his plans, according to Bedingfield.
"Because of the callous and hateful language used by Stephen Millers and others, Democratic governors feel a moral obligation to oppose it."
She argued that leaders should not be judged solely on their rhetoric regarding the issue, but rather on their actions.
"I believe that reacting hastily and being perceived as obstacles to taking stronger actions on immigration is not the best position for the Democrats."
