At Notre Dame Cathedral, Jill Biden shares details of her encounter with Trump.
After being closed for nearly two years due to a fire on its roof, Notre Dame reopened in December.
In December, President-elect Donald Trump and First lady Jill Biden surprised observers by appearing friendly at the reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Now, the former first lady has disclosed what the pair discussed during that viral encounter.
During the ceremony, French first lady Brigitte Macron sat between Biden and Trump. When she got up, they were left alone and captured smiling and chatting. In an interview with The Washington Post, Biden revealed that she joked with him and her husband.
Trump had a good meeting with President Biden at the White House following his win over Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 general election, and the two men were photographed smiling and laughing together.
"Jill responded to Trump, saying, "Yes, because you're both talkers.""
The following day, Trump shared a photo on social media of him with the first lady in an advertisement for his $199 perfumes and colognes, featuring the tagline, "A scent your enemies can't resist."
Kara Voght, a reporter, questioned Biden about her conversation with the man who did not invite her husband to the White House after Biden won the 2020 election. Additionally, she asked about her husband's previous statement that Trump posed an "existential threat" to democracy.
"Joe and I value our institutions and traditions," Jill stated. "It's crucial to me that they endure, and what's the point of being rude?"
On April 15, 2019, a fire broke out at Notre Dame cathedral, causing the iconic spire and most of the roof to be consumed. Despite the devastation, firefighters managed to save the main structure of the cathedral, including the bell towers and windows.
The cathedral's bells chimed as French President Emmanuel Macron delivered remarks during the emotional reopening ceremony last month.
"I represent the French people in expressing our gratitude to those who rescued, aided, and reconstructed the cathedral," Macron stated.
"Tonight we can together share joy and pride," he later said. "Long live Notre-Dame de Paris, long live the Republic, and long live France."
Trump and Obama were seen laughing together at Carter's funeral last week, sparking curiosity among onlookers about what they discussed. Trump later posted a humorous spoof of their conversation on his social media accounts.
The video features Trump and Obama mocking Harris' unsuccessful presidential campaign using AI-generated dialogue that imitates their voices, with Trump also attacking Clinton, who was present.
