As he retires, Pastor Russell Levenson emphasizes the importance of being a "light of Christ" to others.
According to Levenson, people should feel loved when entering church.
The Rev. Russell Levenson, retiring from the largest Episcopal Church in the country, emphasizes the importance of loving one another as the call of all religious communities.
"According to Levenson, Jesus invited His followers to remain in Him, and the chief way to do so is by loving one another. He believes that the expression of the Christian faith is to love one another, and when people enter churches, they need to feel loved not only by God but also by those who are there."
The religious leader emphasized the significance of leading with love in a world where "there's so much that seems overwhelming."
"One of my friends used to say, 'You tackle an elephant one bite at a time,' and it seems like there are elephants of problems all around us," he said. "But focus on the issue or problem right in front of you. Do what you can, where you are."
The former leader of St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas, urged others to find comfort in hearing the voice of God as "God is shining through [them]."
"In a world full of noise, we must remain still and quiet to hear the voice of God calling us to be in community with one another, to love and serve each other. This is not only our best foot forward, but also our calling to be a light of Christ to others."
