AOC criticized for 'disheartening' speech opposing women's sports bill: 'Theatrical display'
Riley Gaines endorsed the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act as the first bill of the 119th Congress.
Riley Gaines, a former NCAA swimmer, criticized Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., for her "disheartening" speech on the House floor, where she attacked Republicans for passing a bill that prohibits biological males from participating in female sports.
On Tuesday, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act passed, and Democrats were accused by Gains of staging a "theatrical performance" against it. During "Fox & Friends," she debunked left-wing misconceptions about the future of sports eligibility.
"Gaines explained to Lawrence Jones on Wednesday that the bill has nothing to do with genital inspections or any anatomical examination. Instead, it relies on birth certificates and a routine physical that every athlete must undergo to play their sport."
"To watch the theatrical performance from the Democrats on the House floor, it was disheartening. And to continue to see them tout about women's rights, including the Violence Against Women Act, was even more disheartening. But what was particularly disheartening was to remember how AOC voted on the Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act - in opposition."
While all 235 Republican representatives supported the bill, only two Democrats, Reps. Henry Cuellar and Vicente Gonzales, voted in favor of its passage. The remaining 206 House Democrats voted against it, and Rep. Don Davis abstained by voting "present."
Ocasio-Cortez criticized Republicans for the legislation, stating that it would require young girls to undergo genital examinations, a claim that Republicans denied.
"Republicans who have consistently voted against the Violence Against Women Act now claim to care about women, but their true intentions are to allow gender and genital examinations on little girls in the name of attacking trans girls," she said. "Trans girls are girls."
If the bill is passed by the Senate and signed into law, it will prohibit schools from permitting biological males to participate in female sports.
Federal funding would be withdrawn from any schools that do not require athletes to compete on sports teams that match the gender on their birth certificate.
All federally funded schools, from kindergarten to high school and colleges and universities that receive federal funds, would be subject to the new policy.
Although the far-left closely examined the bill, Gaines maintained that safeguarding women and girls' sports is not a political matter.
"According to Gaines, the Democrats did not learn from the events of November 5th. He wondered whether people would continue to hold firm to their positions, like AOC did, or if they would begin to back away from them."
Some Democrats have criticized their party's emphasis on inclusivity and progressivism, stating that the far-left does not allow for differing opinions on topics such as transgender athletes.
Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., initially stated that he did not support males competing in female sports. However, he did not vote in favor of the bill, as did Rep. Tom Suozzi, D-N.Y., who also expressed concerns.
Gaines stated that Congressman Moulton appeared on the news and declared, "We've become too radical as a party. I have daughters. I don't want my daughters on the court or on the field with boys," but despite this, he was still pressured to vote against the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act.
""What the Democrats are is truthfully, a cult," she continued, implying that more than just a party, they were a group with a strong belief system."
