Antony Blinken celebrates Biden-Harris' 'stronger' foreign policy on the same day Iran attacks Israel.
Blinken stated that the Biden administration's strategy has improved the United States' geopolitical position compared to four years ago.
On the same day that Iran launched hundreds of ballistic missiles at Israel, Secretary of State Antony Blinken published an op-ed highlighting the Biden-Harris administration's foreign policy achievements, emphasizing their departure from the policies of former President Trump.
Nearly 200 ballistic missiles were launched by Iran towards targets in Israel on Tuesday evening local time, according to the administration. This was a significant escalation by Iran, and the indiscriminate rocket fire was part of the Shia regime's response to Israel assassinating nearly all of Hezbollah senior leadership, including long-time leader Hassan Nasrallah.
Before Iran's attack, Blinken wrote an op-ed praising the Biden-Harris administration's "renewal" strategy and how it was benefiting American interests abroad.
Blinken stated that the United States is now in a more advantageous geopolitical position due to the Biden administration's strategy compared to four years ago.
Blinken stated that the administration prioritized international cooperation and avoided making decisions abroad in isolation.
"From the outset, President Biden and Vice President Harris recognized the need for cooperation in a volatile world. To safeguard its interests and create opportunities for its citizens, the United States must collaborate with those who share its vision of a free, open, secure, and prosperous world, while standing firm against those who threaten it," he stated. "President Biden and Vice President Harris adopted a strategy of revitalization, combining substantial domestic investments with an extensive diplomatic effort to strengthen partnerships abroad," he explained. "They believed that this dual-pronged approach was the most effective way to challenge competitors' assumptions that the United States was in decline and lacking in resolve."
Blinken stated that the war in Gaza is linked to Iran's problematic actions.
"Normalization cannot progress unless there is an end to the war in Gaza and a time-bound, credible path to statehood that addresses the Palestinians' legitimate aspirations and Israel's security needs. However, if these efforts succeed, normalization will link Israel to a regional security architecture, open up economic opportunities across the region, and isolate Iran and its proxies. The coalition of countries, including Arab states, that helped Israel defend itself against an unprecedented direct attack from Iran in April, demonstrated glimmers of such integration."
The State Department directed Planet Chronicle Digital to their briefing when requested for a response.
The Biden-Harris administration's foreign policy has been criticized by House Republicans as being focused on "appeasement," particularly towards Iran.
The joint statement from House Speaker Mike Johnson, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Majority Whip Tom Emmer and Chairwoman Elise Stefanik read, "Our adversaries are carrying out increasingly dangerous attacks due to Biden and Harris' weak and failed foreign policy."
"Israel is under attack from Iran with a barrage of rocket fire and a coordinated terrorist assault. The world is observing as Israeli families seek safety and shelter as missiles light up the sky."
If Israel responds to the missile barrage, it will face crushing attacks, as warned by Iran's Revolutionary Guard in a statement released by Iranian state media.
Planet Chronicle' Louis Casiano and Michael Dorgan contributed to this report.
