An investigation has been launched by the company behind Seltzer poll after the results of the poll were posted on X before they were officially published.
"Selzer is about to drop Kamala +3," a major campaign surrogate has announced.
An investigation has been launched by the company behind the Des Moines Register after the leak of Ann Selzer's poorly-aged Iowa poll's findings on X prior to publication, according to a new report.
The Des Moines Register published a pre-election poll on November 2 that inaccurately showed Vice President Kamala Harris leading in Iowa. However, an unknown social media user who goes by the handle "IllinoisLib" posted the results on X an hour before it was published, according to a report from Semafor.
"Selzer is about to drop Kamala +3," the post reads.
During a Duke Democrats meeting, Democratic Governor JB Pritzker of Illinois unveiled the poll's results. However, Pritzker's office did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
"The author wrote, "No, I was dead--," but then JB Pritzker mentioned it at a Duke Democrats meeting and said, "Oh wait, that's not being released till later today, oops," and my jaw fell to the floor.""
Semafor reports that two sources with knowledge of the situation claim Gannett, the owner of the Iowa newspaper, is investigating a possible leak.
The Semafor report states that Gannett is examining how Pritzker and other political figures may have obtained knowledge of the poll early, and is reviewing employees' emails as a source.
In the days leading up to the election, a poll conducted by the Des Moines Register in Iowa showed Joe Biden winning by three points, causing a stir in the reliably red state. The poll, which was conducted three days before the election, showed a seven-point shift from Trump to Biden since September, when he had a four-point lead over the vice president in the same survey. The Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa poll released on Saturday had Biden up 47% to 44%, in a state Trump had easily carried in 2016 and 2020 and was not considered a swing state in 2024.
Selzter's poll was widely accepted as accurate by much of the media, with pundits on MSNBC, CNN, and ABC's "The View" all praising the forecast as a positive sign for Harris on Election Day. However, after the results were announced, Trump supporters and conservatives quickly criticized and ridiculed Selzer's poll.
The Des Moines Register stated that Selzter was "examining her data" to figure out why her poll "deviated so significantly from former President Donald Trump's overwhelming victory in the state."
In an op-ed for the Des Moines Register, Selzer admitted that she had been receiving criticism and questions about her poll's accuracy, and suggested that it may have shifted the state's vote towards Trump.
"My inbox and voice mail have been inundated with inquiries about my manipulation of data to present a false Harris lead, as well as doubts about the accuracy of the data," Selzer wrote. "In response to accusations that I manipulated the data, was paid by a secretive Democratic source, or engaged in psyops or voter suppression: I disclosed to multiple news outlets that the findings from this poll could motivate and galvanize Republican voters who believed they would effortlessly win the election. Perhaps this is what transpired."
Selzer acknowledged that her team is examining the events that occurred and "raising any reasonable questions" regarding the data. Additionally, she admitted that she had a feeling about the late shift after hearing from voters in the days before the election.
Gannett did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
