After Biden leaves office, Americans reflect on his legacy: 'Made mistakes and people died'
While many criticized Biden's legacy, others praised him as a "great humanitarian" who saved the US from hardship, according to Planet Chronicle Digital.
As President Biden prepares to depart from office in a few days, Americans are assessing what they believe his legacy will be.
Citizens across the country shared their differing opinions on how the one-term president will be remembered, with some admitting that history may not be kind to the 46th president, even among his own fans.
"Brian, a Maryland resident, expressed his sadness for Joe Biden while visiting Washington D.C. last week. Although Biden's service to his country for nearly half a century may be recognized by history books, his legacy will be challenging due to the withdrawal from Afghanistan."
"But they made mistakes and people died," he added.
Genna from Michigan believes that Biden will be most remembered for corruption, DEI, and being too woke.
Monell, Genna's friend, commented, "I believe they've gone too far left. They're pushing an agenda for unimportant matters. We're supporting Ukraine financially, but we should prioritize our own citizens first."
Jennifer, a Houston resident, stated that she believes Biden's age will be remembered in history. "People often make fun of that, and I think it's true that he's a bit too old to handle all that much," she said. "It's a lot to take care of, and I don't think he's the best at it."
A California resident visiting Texas stated that "Oh my God, open borders" was his opinion on President Biden's legacy when asked. He added that he did not like what was done on the border and that "lawfare" against President-elect Donald Trump and his allies was also a significant part of Biden's legacy.
He claimed that they utilized the DOJ and FBI to suppress individuals.
Jona from Michigan recounted that she would most vividly recall Biden's poor performance.
Rudy in Houston stated that "not much was accomplished" during Biden's presidency. "They simply appeared to have a marionette in office."
Erin, a Washington D.C. resident, described her view of Biden's time in office as "not exceptional."
A national poll by Marist found that more than half of Americans believe that Biden will be remembered as a below-average or one of the worst presidents in the country's history. The poll, released on Wednesday, revealed that over a third of adults nationwide believe Biden will be remembered as one of the worst presidents in American history, with another 19% saying he will be considered a below-average president.
An above average or one of the best presidents in the nation's history was considered the legacy of Biden by 19% of participants, while 28% believed it would be average.
A poll conducted by USA Today and Suffolk University on Tuesday showed that 44% of voters across the country believe that history will view Biden as an unsuccessful president, while 27% believe he will be remembered as a fair leader.
According to a Gallup poll published on January 8th, 54% of Americans believe that Biden will be remembered as either "below average" (37%) or "poor" (17%). On the other hand, 19% are confident that he will have a positive legacy, with 6% stating that he was "outstanding" and 13% saying he was "above average."
Multiple Americans who are pleased with Biden's legacy were interviewed by Planet Chronicle Digital. Bob, a Californian who was visiting D.C., described Biden's legacy as "great." He praised Biden as a "great human, great humanitarian," and a "great person," stating that the 46th president "tried to do his best for the country."
Houston's Greg stated, "In my opinion, his heart has always been aligned with the interests of the middle class, and he's an advocate for their rights."
"Matt from Virginia stated that he was pleased with the way the president ran the country, although he mentioned that the president could have handled the border better."
He added, "I wish him the best of luck as a human being."
Krissy from Michigan commended Biden, stating, "Biden handled COVID with seriousness, keeping us safe through mature guidance and factual leadership, leading us to a better state."
Another Michigan resident, Nathan, characterized Biden's legacy as "equality." He stated that during Biden's presidency, "there's no judgment, no hardships," and that it was a time when "America came together."
Madeline from Houston commended the president for withdrawing from Afghanistan, expressing, "I'm glad he got us out of there, regardless of the outcome."
